"There are no straight lines in Nature" Browsing through a decorating book entitled "Patina Style",the decorating ideas were described as "Age with grace. Discover the beauty in the old, the imperfect and the slightly worn". It went on to embrace the chipped and the weathered. I was reading through the book thinking that not only did this describe a decorating style, but rather it started to read like a personal description of me. Not my style, but me, personally. Widowed, I am definitely worn (some might even say damaged),old and imperfect. Life has thrown me a lot of unexpected curve balls. But, I would like to think that there is a lot of worth in that life experience.Experience that I bring to what I make. Creating with my own hands remains, for me, a joyful task. I would be making these things even if I never sold another one. I am constantly tweaking the baskets, sometimes adding hand painted elements and most recently, wood burning and needle felting. I am also constantly looking for new inspiration from nature's offerings. I have a focused attention on growing my own materials and foraging locally.I have become a bit of a loner so, wandering is now second nature. But, with the helps of my sons, I am also plowing under yet more land and planting ever so much more. Between what I personally use , the deer claim and uncooperative weather, keeping up with the dried flower demand can be challenging.Luckily for me, being out on the land is a happy place. It also helps that I embrace the imprecise, take failed crops in stride and am constantly looking for ways to pivit and evolve!I credit my location ( Lake Ontario) with this fluidity. It is hard to be rigid when you live on a lake.
