About

Hi, my name is Del King and I am the the sole owner and operator of The Kings Wood Shop located in Greer, SC. I was born and raised on a family farm near Binger, OK where we raised polled hereford beef cattle, peanuts and alfalfa hay. I joined the U.S. Army right out of high school in 1975 and was stationed in MO, AL, VA, and AK. I was in the Military Police Corps so I put that trade to work when I was honorably discharged in 1979 and spent the next 25 years as a police officer in Greenville, SC. Woodworking has always been a passion for me and I consider myself very fortunate to work in my wood shop full time now. I spend most of my time working on the lathe creating salt & pepper mills, pens, bowls, basically anything that can be turned on the lathe. My wife's name is Brenda, we have been married for 30 years now and have 1 daughter and 4 grandchildren. I love playing golf as well and would have a tough time if I had to choose…

I love playing golf as well and would have a tough time if I had to choose between golf and wood working. The farm taught me hard work, perseverance, and do the job right the first time regardless of the time involved. I've always thought folks should be proud of their work and I want you to be proud to display one of my pieces in your home or office. The banner graphic on my wood shop has the motto of "Handmade Wooden Treasures". Properly cared for, these treasures will not only last your lifetime, but many lifetimes. My wood work is not fancy, in fact it's very simple. My goal with every piece is to let the wood do most of the talking. Mother Nature provides all the artistry, I just try to put a little lipstick on her. Every piece of wood has it's own "personality". When I start cutting on the lathe I try to listen to what this personality is trying to tell me. If you listen close enough, the wood will let you know what it's final portrait will look like. You can spend more on fine wood work for your home or office but you will never find pieces that are better made. A tip of the hat goes to you for taking the time to look at my wood shop.
