My grandmother knitted and crocheted for decades and all of her children and grandchildren have blankets that she created. In fact, each grandchild has two — a baby blanket when they were born and a blanket for when they were to get married. Luckily she made everyone’s blankets before her death in 1985. Then I was only 10 years old. My mother chose to give us the blankets when we were in our teens and to this day I still treasure both of them.
In 2004 I decided it was time to learn how to knit and so it began. While my grandmother didn’t have the opportunity to teach me, friends and I taught each other. I still have the first scarf I made with its alternating knits and purls for I’ve never been one to learn something new without making it a challenge.
