Bob and Linda Bergan's Profile

About

Bob, the old shop teacher, can not pass up a garage sale or thrift shop and after 38 years of marriage, I decided to join him in his hobby by re-purposing and recycling some of his finds. My original college degree was in history so vintage appeals to me. I just love discovering the history of an item! The old shop teacher was a photography teacher but is not responsible for the quality of our pics, sadly that falls at the door of the resident first grade teacher. She tries:)

Bob has a strong commitment to helping the orphans of India and visited there a couple uears ago. He used money from our etsy sales to buy sand to fill in a malaria swamp around a public school in India and for a playground at Mercy Orphanage, He came back even more committed to helping the children amd looks forward to returning in 2015. You can check out Mercy Orphanage www.mercyorphanage.com and…

We want to leave our grandchildren a world as beautiful as the one we grew up in and so we are committed to reusing, reducing, and recycling. Bob regularly pulled old but usable items from the dumpster behind his school building and we enjoy brainstorming a new or upscaled persona for it. My first effort produced the original of my globe lamps which a student knocked of the shelf and broke. they were so sad I had to do something!. Then Bob came home with a bunch of clipboards which I had a lot of fun making "cute". A friend gave me a bunch of cans from her son's formula which I made into attractive and usable marker containers for my students. I'm sure you get the picture!

My mom has passed on and we cleaned out her house. Everything we come across evokes a memory, some sweet, some bittersweet and some just plain funny. Many of the items we have for sale were treasured by mom but she saved everything and we just can't keep it all so in hopes of finding people to continue her legacy of thrift and her love for beautiful things we are offering them up for sale.

Check out our daughter Jennifer's shop at www.birdfromawire [!at] etsy.com, She does amazing things with wire and fabric and generally has an article in some art & craft magazine. She's developing the family affinity for teaching and is teaching at various art workshops here and there. A portion of her sales also support Mercy Orphanage.
