Stuart Harris' Profile

About

I was born in a small fishing village in the North of Scotland. We moved south when I was three or four years old but I still remember little details like the fish tanks where my father worked and the gem-like orange door handles that were fashionable at the time in that part of the world.

About

I was born in a small fishing village in the North of Scotland. We moved south when I was three or four years old but I still remember little details like the fish tanks where my father worked and the gem-like orange door handles that were fashionable at the time in that part of the world.

I don't remember when I started drawing. It's just something that's always been part of my life. The walls of our house were covered in pictures of birds, animals and buildings drawn in pencil and charcoal by my father. When we went on holiday he would draw pictures of the cottage where we were staying as a souvenir. I remember little about my own early efforts at drawing, only the texture and smell of the materials.

I didn't study Art at school but continued drawing, almost exclusively in pencil, heavily influenced by the Fantasy Art of artists like Ian Miller and Michael Whelan, probably a result of flicking through my sister's collection of Tolkein books and listening to my father's prog rock records. While living in Glasgow I developed an interest in figurative art, inspired by the likes of Peter Howson and Ken Currie.
