I taught myself to knit from YouTube while I was stuck at home with a burnout – I wanted something to do while I watched the first seasons of Doctor Who. Later, I decided I wanted to knit socks, the nice big ones that are so awesome with Doc Martens and a dress. That took me two years as the heels confounded me. Finally, I ended up moving to Sweden and met my Norwegian partner. My Norwegian isn’t great – but his mother and I communicate through yarn and knitting. That’s where my fascination for the Nordic patterns and stranded knitting comes from.

I did eventually master socks and I knit sweaters, too. I don’t crochet and I certainly don’t call myself a master knitter. On the other hand, I’m always knitting something. It’s important to do things you love – that’s how you get better.
