ECO-FRIENDLY ETCHING - STAINLESS STEEL
The stainless steel has been etched with an eco-friendly process which does not use any acid or other toxic chemicals. Salt water will naturally corrode stainless steel over time, the process is accelerated with a few volts of electricity. No toxic fumes, hydrogen and oxygen are released into the air. Galvanic or electrolytic etching was originally developed by printmakers in the mid 1800's as a non-toxic process for etching their printing plates.

A resist is applied to a steel sheet, this becomes the anode, and is immersed in salt water along with a cathode. After etching, each jewellery piece is sawed out by hand, filed, and sanded. A black patina is applied into the recesses to enhance the design.

Brass & Bronze - Also electro-etched, in a chemical solution that never wears out, so there is nothing to dispose of.
