Trend Lightly is a new endeavor that is born out of my need to create. I’ve always had a vision for clothing and a love for refurbishing clothing, I just haven’t ever had the time or resources to follow through with my passion. While I still don’t have the time, I have a new found resolve to not let that hold me back.

My clothing is born out of upcycled and/or eco responsible materials, that also represent the beauty of my Northwest surroundings. Many of the fabrics and colors I use are inspired by watching my son and husband out in the garden trolling through the tulips and daffodils and eating the nectar out of our red and yellow honeysuckle. This is me

My clothing rolls with the seasons much like my surroundings. From the bright colors of spring, warm colors of summer, and cool colors of fall. My clothing is a representation of what I feel.

You could say repurposing clothing is a family tradition. My grandmother (who is now 90 and going strong) had to repurpose and improve clothes out of necessity. She taught me so much about making due and how with a cut here and a stitch there clothing can be transformed. She has also passed down to me her entire collection of vintage buttons, buckles, patches etc. that I can’t wait to use!

Repurposing clothing is not a necessity for me in the same way it was for my grandmother, but it is for us as a society when children are being abused in textile factories and families are enslaved to their jobs due to large corporations moving in and wiping out the small businesses, making themselves the only choice for employment in their community. And it is a necessity for our earth, from whom we take much more than we need, and much more than she can give.

Trend Lightly seeks to create guilt free fashion that can’t be mimicked. We must be responsible with our clothing options by making sure the materials we use and the people involved in our fashion do not afflict our environment or our society. I know my clothing won’t change the world, but I also, know that it won’t harm it either. Thanks for reading.
