In India, newborn babies are massaged with herb-infused oils, and bathed not with soap, but with herbal pastes using recipes that have been passed down generation to generation.
When my baby boy was born, I followed the traditional recipes, but they are long-winded and messy to follow everyday. My friend, who is also a new mom, had been researching homemade soap recipes for a while. Together, we made a few test batches of soap using Indian traditional bath ingredients like turmeric, lentil flours, saffron and ghee as additives. The soaps are moisturizing, have a luxurious lather and contain all the goodness of the traditional herbs.
We started giving out our soap to friends and family, who loved the soap and encouraged us to start selling it. We have extremely full lives already, but we decided to start selling the soap, to sponsor adoption of kids with disabilities, abandoned by parents who are unable to care for them.
