This is my version of collage- but using vintage jewelry, coins, medals, drawer pulls, and found items. It’s like grandpa’s toolbox got a hold of grandma’s jewelry box- a bit of recycling with a blingy twist!

An otterhound is a strong working waterdog with a long, lovely coat. I chose the name because my pieces are strong yet still have a hint of luxury and whimsy.

I was born in SF and my grandmother had tons of fabulous jewelry and clothes from the 40s and 50s and some of the older, Edwardian and Victorian items from her mother etc. I got used to that type of styling. ≈≈ Pilfering Church Thrift Stores in Clearlake ≈≈
When I got into my teen years I got more into wearing jewelry (outside of the attic) but Clearlake didn’t have much in the way of jewelry stores and it was before the internet. I was left to find old pieces at the church thrift stores and re-make them into something I like.

That wasn't at all cool until "Pretty in Pink" came out. Suddenly all the people that made fun of me were asking what thrift stores I want to. It was weird. And, I have to say, I was pleased when right after that hip hop became the thing and people left me alone. =)

≈≈ The Wedding Necklace ≈≈
I continued making stuff from thrift store and vintage finds. Even my wedding necklace in 2006 was made from one of my grandmother's earrings. You can see it here: http://www.velvetotterhound.com/Custom.html

≈≈ Spreading the Sparkly Love ≈≈
Now 'vintage redesign' is all popular so I finally starting selling my wares. I get a bit fantastical with my pieces but they make me happy!
