About

We’re a small design/illustration group in Milwaukee with epic ideas. At Vinylville, the strength in our designs lie within simplicity. We find that the challenging part of design is not to over design. That’s why most of our art pieces are only one or just a few colors. Did we mention that all pieces are in vinyl? Ahh yes, vinyl is our choice of medium. All our pieces are designed on a mac and all our vinyl is carefully hand peeled.

In 2008 we booked our 1st ever art show without any art to show. We were given a 5 month time frame to fill up the walls before the day of the show. It was literally a blank canvas for us. At that time, it had been on a 4-year hiatus from creating any true art. The only “art” that we were accustom to was found in the corporate design world. On our search for inspiration, we took what we knew and ran with it. We created our main series of the show, “The Takeover”,…

We created our main series of the show, “The Takeover”, which explores the idea of creativity in a corporate setting. We also explored various themes from childhood, like cassette tapes and materialism which sparked the piece “Kid in You.”

The final series of art we created for the show is still probably one of our most successful to date, we created laptop decals which can be found here on Etsy. Laptops are basically canvases to us. They are blank and just begging for a graphic. Because of the laptop decal series, we looked into opening a shop on Etsy. We opened our Etsy store on November 23, 2008. The very 1st design that we posted was titled “Plugged-in,” and we still sell it today.

Fast forward a few months later to when we concepted the “Snow’s Revenge” idea in April of 2009. It’s a visual play a familiar image in which we twisted it’s perception to a dark and interestingly evil character. Within that month we sketched, designed and tweeked the illustration to what we felt was close to perfection. We published and posted the “Snow’s Revenge” design for sale on May 12th, 2009. On September 9th, 2009 (9-9-9) we became the most talked about event in the world when our “Snow’s Revenge” design was ranked #1 on Digg.com!

The “Snow’s Revenge” has been repeatedly copied and bootlegged on Etsy. Many shop’s (cause they are not artists nor designers, and they know who they are) have ripped off the design line-for-line with no regard or respect of the creation process. (Be inspired, don't bite.)

We strive on the pure passion to create and design. We are at the forefront of the vinyl art movement and one of the first in the world to use vinyl as an art medium. This year, we plan on taking vinyl art to another level. Here at Vinylville, anything can happen.
