Looking back on my life, I realize that creativity has been a part of my existence since I was born. My mother was an Art Education major and we were always attending local craft fairs and cultural events. I can remember playing hooky from elementary school just so I could spend time with my great-aunt Hazel. She would always sew Barbie doll clothes for me by hand when I visited.
As I grew older, I never seemed to quite fit in with my peers. I always felt out of place because I wanted to march to my own beat. I was always expressing myself creatively through poems and short stories. I tried sewing for the first time right after I graduated from high school (many moons ago). I thought that I could learn on my own. I was extremely discouraged by my first project, a pair of Bermuda shorts that didn't turn…
