I've been beading recreationally since the late 1980s, but the hobby took over my life in 2005. I make a point of bringing back interesting beads from my travels to Europe, Asia, and Africa and try to combine them into pieces that not only look fantastic, but also tell a story.
I was in the Peace Corps in Malawi, southern Africa, in the mid-1990s and was able to explore whole new realms of design influences while I was there, as well as seriously being bitten by the travel bug.
Among my favorite materials right now are ceramic beads from the Kazuri Women's Beadmaking Cooperative in Nairobi, Kenya. I visited there and was dazzled by 300 women making thousands of stunning beads by hand. Of course I had to support their efforts. Find out more about Kazuri at www.kazuri.com
I hope you enjoy…
