About the shop items:
Currently my shirts and bags are cuts and styles that I have stumbled upon, liked the fit or look of and decided to batik. I may eventually pick one blank supplier and stick with them but, for now the type/brand of shirt will be on the listing so you're not surprised at seeing an Arizona Jeans or Gap (current examples) label in it. I truly…

I may eventually pick one blank supplier and stick with them but, for now the type/brand of shirt will be on the listing so you're not surprised at seeing an Arizona Jeans or Gap (current examples) label in it. I truly love what I create and usually keep one from each style for myself.
Some of the bags and accessories are eco-friendly, it will be on the listing if so.

**The wall hangings are meant to be art pieces and not washed. Please don't wash them, it will ruin them.

What follows is more than you probably ever wanted to know about me and my chosen medium.

About Batik:

Batik is hot wax applied to fabric, the fabric is then dyed and left to dry, the wax is removed and the the end product is finished in whatever manner fits with that piece (edges artfully frayed or sewn, clothing carefully washed and dried, etc). When that wax is removed it reveals the true magic of the art form, it's like opening a present every single time and it is the part of the process that I look forward to the most. The whole thing can take anywhere from three days to several weeks, depending on the size and complexity of the piece. Every piece is hand painted and is then individually hand dyed.

About Me:

I'm a gamer geek chick with a penchant for punk, electronica, rock and metal. I play games. I read. I create. I dye my hair a lot. I eat frozen Twix. I drink tons of coffee. I get sucked into the interwebs for hours.

As a child I was continually creative. I remember making haunted houses out of construction paper and cutting out curls of paper from coloring books and calling them my pet snakes. I drew countless elephants for my Mom, made an awful puff-paint Grateful Dead t-shirt for my brother and even practiced my cake decorating on overturned pans while my Mom iced the real cakes. One summer I made a dozen or so sculpted cats with tiny food bowls and blankets for them to lay on with the idea that I would have a table at a huge local fall craft show. I was maybe eleven years old. I ended up giving up after a few days and going to play outside but, it taught me that those tables are a lot of work!

After the constant presence of art in my life for as long as I could remember, I stopped doing it, any of it. Now, many years later I have picked up the artist's mantle again and I feel like I have come home. This is what I am supposed to be doing and the name, Wax Artistic, is not just because I use wax, it's because I am growing in my art after a long dormant period.

I share my life with an equally artistic husband who is a wood crafter, painter, wordsmith, musician and all around awesome guy. We have two large, silly dogs who try to "help" with everything and may make an appearance in the listing photos. There is also a cat around here somewhere, it's best to leave her alone or you may find yourself missing digits.

My hope is that you all like what I'm making, it is from my heart. My goal is to sell cool stuff to people who enjoy it. My dream is to make art full time.

Inspired by:
traditional mehndi, tattoo art, the Day of the Dead, post-apocalyptic fashion and living, religious symbolism, mythical creatures, skulls, the elements, death, love, things that go bump in the night, video games, music and a million other things.

In the words of my Mom: "You were always feisty."
