I grew up on a 200acre dairy in the middle of Wisconsin. work was nonstop 24- 7days 365. I went to college in science to become a marine biologist, but the artist in me won out. I need to move to pursue my interests and ended up in Maine at SMU. After making art in several materials having the chance to make what ever I wanted I was out. Out on my own with no $$$. And soon realize that If I was going to subsist I would have to change every thing about wat I do. I will use what I know. The technique involved in what I do is the craft. I can use the craft to make my art. I have a huge garden that is grown for the PAPERMAKING STUDIO. The papers I make use all the different kinds of flowers and leaves to make a very artful and sophisticated product. Florabunda is what I call the look of my papers. there's a complete bouquet in every sheet of stationary. perfect as a wedding invitation jacket. The garden is an endless inspiration for my work as an artist. The POTTERY STUDIO uses the inspiration in a more indirect way. Vines, leaves, flowers, and seeds are painted over a shino base glaze. The color theory behind glazing is crazy. The chemical reactions at 2300 degrees F are predictable, but there are always those things that happen making every piece unique and one of a kind. The artist part of me values this part of the process. The pottery is functional. All glazes are food safe, great in micro and care should be taken when useing the pots in the oven and in the dish washer. I love handwashing my one of a kind pots. I get to view the surface while cleaning up.I love all materials maybe I should call myself a mix-media artist. As my journey unfolds my love for the POTTERY & PAPER is consistant. If I decide to start in on a new mediun you will know.
