Karin Bremer's Profile

About

Creating things by hand has always been a vital part of who I am. I grew up in a family of artists, surrounded by the hills and streams of upstate New York. Being privy to the lives of local artists, and running freely through creative studios nurtured my passion for all things handmade.

I have my degree in studio art from Drew University in northern New Jersey, close enough to NYC to easily hop a train and enjoy the wonders of Manhattan. After graduating with an emphasis in photography and woodworking, my love of travel began and I have spent countless winters exploring the world, from the tip of Patagonia to the far reaches of Cambodia. Every trip has provided me with more inspiration and understanding of how the life of craft is an age old tradition. One that is beautiful, vital, and still growing.

My love of all things handmade, has made it difficult to be monogamous with only one medium, so I fall in love with them all. Wood, paper, photography, illustration, screenprinting...... Lately however, my passion has remained on metals, and the fine art of jewelry design. I spent the summer of '06 living in Portland, Maine attending metalsmithing classes at the Maine College of art. I absolutely love the process. Upon returning to my lakeside cottage in New York, I have begun to create my own studio
devoted to metals.
