Jackie Huang's Profile

About

Jackie Huang is a 3D story artist and art teacher whose passion for art transcends the boundaries of various art forms. Three years ago, Jackie discovered the art of needle felting (a form of hand-sculpting objects with wool). What began as a hobby soon became a way for Jackie to bring his designs to life and offer each of his characters a distinct personality, look, and feel.

Woolbuddy is Jackie’s labor of love. Founded in 2009 as a toy for his young daughter, his felted creatures have taken on a life of their own. In just three years, over 300 characters have been birthed, making up a menagerie of loveable and fantastical fuzzy creatures from the land to the sea, each with a special story to tell! Today, the Woolbuddy collection is highly sought after by fellow artists and art enthusiasts as well as adults and children alike. WoolBuddy has become a household name with products that often sell out at local museums, stores, and national conventions.

The Woolbuddy line has been featured at national conventions such as Comicon, Wondercon, the Alternative Press Expo (APE) and the Maker Faire and at boutiques, yarn shops, and museums nationally. Jackie loves to teach his simple techniques to others and has led workshops around the Bay Area, such as Craft Bar with Etsy Labs at the Museum of Craft and Folk Art.

Jackie’s sculpture-like felted creatures bring much joy both to crafters and those looking for special handmade gifts—and plenty of fun for his daughter!
