Worldwide Oddities' Profile

About

When I was young, I was a curious child that enjoyed exploring and making new discoveries. As I grew older my passion for collecting and traveling started after high school. I have alway been blessed with great friends in my life as mentors, teachers, artists and creative minds alike. I spent portions of my life experiencing different cultures and traveling across the country and living in towns going to eclectic concerts and collecting various pieces from friends and people I met along the way.

One of those places I spent some time in was New Orleans after Hurricane Katrina. I went down there to experience the devastation first hand and witness the impact that it had on the area.

I saw people who had been a part of strong communities lose everything and cope with rebuilding from nothing. That changed my perspective as I visited and helped these people and saw that they could still appreciate the simplest of things when all else was lost. Wherever I have gone I found that the smallest of things can trigger feelings and memories that link us together on our journey. Some of these small and significant things I started collecting and have grown into this shop.

As I’m growing older, I see my mentors in the field retiring and passing on. I started my Etsy shop in 2009 while apprenticing with a great group of collectors, both buyers and sellers, within a tight niche group of friends and family that have taken care of Milwaukee and the greater Wisconsin area for the past 40+ years. I have learned much from these people, including their kindness and generosity, while taking time to educate myself and others about their collections. This has helped build my Etsy shop into what it is.
