My business name is Yagga. I chose the name because of its obvious ties with Baba Yagga. I am a first generation American, both my parents come from Russia, I grew up with stories of the Yagga. An Old woman living in the deepest reaches of the forest. The Yagga, knows many mysterious things. She represents the female achitype of wisdom and forbidden knowledge. Many fear her, though rely on her ancient wisdom. She is the one who has lived through maiden hood, has been a mother, and now lives out her days alone, but not without memories and understanding of what it means to live the first parts of life. She, if asked kindly with careful words, will lend you her power, will give you a cure for you ailments, and will make you a bit into a Yagga as well.
This is for me a very powerful figure to represent, and reminds me what my work is trying to achieve. Each piece is…
