Meet the Members of York Art Fusion:

Denise Curran - Her love of photography dates back to Denise’s teens, when she bought a small 110 format camera, photographing mainly family, friends and her local environment in the north of Scotland. That early interest has grown into a real passion.
Street Photography, Still life and Abstract are areas of particular interest. She has been influenced by Cartier Bresson’s ‘decisive moment’, Martin Parr’s observational images and the composition of Andre Kertez.. Kertez has also inspired her love of Still Life and Abstract photography. Her photographic work has been used in books, graphic novels, posters, Arts Award & charity projects and webs stills for a short film.

Vincent Danks - Vincent Danks was born in 1961 in Nkuru, Keyna and has always been annoyed at having been brought back to England when he was eighteen months old as it’s a lot colder in England and he doesn’t like the cold. However, having then been brought north to York when he was twelve (where it was even colder) things at least looked pretty and the gothic surroundings have clearly had an untoward influence on him. His early artistic career began when he was commissioned to draw Doctor Who comics for the Marvel Comics Group. Further comics' work culminated in the creation of his own comic, Sapphire, and the co-creation of Harker with Roger Gibson, where the appreciation of the creative freedom that self publishing afforded became a key element in his desire to create fine art. Although a number of commissioned paintings have been undertaken over the years, the art available on this website are the first results of that desire.

Angela Hall - Angela has always been fascinated by the concept that material objects can absorb memories and that trapped deep within them are intriguing tales from yesteryear and stories of people long since gone. Her work often explores the theme of memory and has previously centred upon a collection of photographs, clothes and jewellery that belonged to her Grandmother Katharine. For example, Angela has used images from her photograph albums to inspire drawings that she then transferred onto articles of her clothing. As the images merged with the fabrics she developed the concept of presenting her life story as if her memories had been trapped within the fibres of the garments.

Kelly Powell - Originally from Canada, Kelly’s love of archaeology led her to settle permanently in the historic city of York in 2002 where she has subsequently worked as a primary school teacher, adult learning tutor and museum educator. In addition to her passion for the past, Kelly equally adores travel, creative writing and photography. The latter she has pursued as a hobby since childhood, developing a particular love of and interest in photographic composition. After all these years Kelly is still amazed at how the smallest of details, the most unexpected of objects and the most ordinary of scenes can be transformed into beautiful, engaging and thought provoking images through the camera's viewfinder. Kelly enjoys photographing a wide range of subjects, often combining her photography with her love of travel, history and nature. Recently she has begun to explore the strange new world of digital imaging software, and is especially intrigued and excited by the dramatic effects that can be achieved through colour manipulation.

* Kelly also runs her own shop at www.etsy.com/shop/kellypowelldesigns stocked with a wonderful selection of original tea themed art, poetry and vintage ceramics! She also helps a friend Lucy run her Vintage shop on Etsy - www.etsy.com/shop/leftoverlucys

Elly Ross - Elly has always had a passion for photography since specialising in it during her Fine Art degree at Nottingham Trent University. Using photography as an artistic medium helps her to become more aware of her surroundings and capture specific moments in time. She likes shooting natural moments using the light available if possible. Elly has worked for a number of organisations including the City of York Council and York Museums Trust covering events and shows. She is currently working on a major photographic project for the York Mystery Plays 2012.
