About

Hello. Welcome to my store.

I have been an artist, crafter and musician for... hmm ...years.

I love vintage art and craft forms and like to do my humble part in keeping them alive and well. Mediums that I've worked with include super 8, dada-inspired collage, lino cuts, poster art, 4-track recordings and, more recently, typography and the art of hand lettering.

I started painting signs a few months ago (January 2012) when I was told that I would have to have another hand surgery. This surgery would be my fifth. I have severe rheumatoid arthritis which has targeted my hands among other things. The way I look at it - living with a disease that is unpredictable, I have to use my hands and creative skills to keep my sanity and to make the most of my abilities…

The way I look at it - living with a disease that is unpredictable, I have to use my hands and creative skills to keep my sanity and to make the most of my abilities.

Materials I like to work with for my signs and other crafts are almost always recycled and salvaged. I admire the beautiful imperfections of re-used materials.. All signs are one-of-a-kind and no two are alike. Personal and made with great care.

Simon Says is inspired by my love for the art of hand-lettering and word-play. We all remember the childhood game "Simon Says" - some with more fondness than others.
Simon and Signs share one thing in common - they both tell us what we can and can't do.

Although my inner "Simon" says "Do as you please and not as you are told." - let's face it, sometimes direction and location can be helpful. We'd all be a little more lost without our signs!

The signs I have created here are inspired by a lexicon of antiquated word - the functional and newly-invented terms. Life is fun, living is creating and the old is new.

I will also be including some other crafty pieces for fun and leisure like our pulp fiction matchbooks and pop culture coasters on reclaimed tiles. And, who knows, maybe a few reworked finds from the back forty ...

I hope you enjoy the store and please let me know if you would like a custom order! I'm open to anything.
