About

Plants have always been close friends. I make flower essences from garden and wild flowers, and am a practicing flower essence therapist and astrologer. (See my other etsy store AstroEssence.etsy!)

When I developed chemical sensitivities and could not longer use synthetic dyes, I turned to plants for color. A whole new world opened...nature's palette is more complex and subtle than the brighter but more mono vibrations of the chemists. The sensations of the flowers and leaves, roots and bark, fruits and seed husks get into my fingers and mind, into the fabric. A scarf dyed with plant dyes becomes part of the garden, the forest, the field.

I love the patterns created by the interplay of water, color, air, and time. Just like the myriad beauties of the forest floor, light on water, shadows on snow. Life just gets more…

My home and garden are free of chemicals, fragrances and smoke. I use no toxic chemicals in dyeing or washing. A few of my scarves are made using string or clips that have non-toxic synthetic dyes in them. I use none of the toxic fixative agents traditionally used with plant dyes. It's true that this reduces the range of shades; I feel that is a fair trade for not having the toxins in the air, the water, my home, or in the fabrics. This way, the feeling of the plants comes through clearly and gently, without harsh metals and chemicals.

Truly, plants are the Earth's treasures, providing us with so much, so beautifully, so abundantly.

I hope you enjoy what the plants and I have made together!
