Javier Martinez and Esmeralda Padilla's Profile

About

The wearable artwork of ZIA SF explores urban grit, mythological beings, and the spiritual powers of the natural world. Our imagery is drawn from Mesoamerican culture, the American southwest, the mural covered streets of the San Francisco Mission District, and the lush and rainy jungles of Hawaii, all places we feel to be home.

Esmeralda Padilla and Javier Martinez established ZIA SF in July of 2011. The motivation to create this company developed from a desire to share our artwork with people in a way that allowed art to become a treasured piece of everyday life. The name ZIA means the light from natural incandesce, such as our sun or a star. The word is often in reference to the sacred sun symbol of the ZIA pueblo Indians of New Mexico’s rio grande.
