Finding Zen With Mandala Patterns
I remember years ago I was sitting in an airport lounge waiting for a flight, just doodling a zentangle style mandala in my sketchbook, and a couple of women who were sitting nearby complimented my work and said to me "Wow that's beautiful - you should sell those!" Years and probably hundreds of doodles later I'm giving it a shot.
Mandalas have always been a favorite style of mine. By definition they are geometric figures representing the universe and the idea of completeness in Hindu and Buddhist symbolism. Those roots, and the meditative process of creating repetitive circular patterns resonates with me and brings me joy. I am also particularly drawn to the idea of sharing a meditative outlet between friends. My intention with my artwork is for my customers to color these mandalas themselves or share them as gifts for friends who might need a little artistic meditation in their lives. You can use colored pencils, pens, paints, feathers and glue - whatever you like! - to take what I've given you to start with and truly make it your own. That way, when you look at your creation, you can be reminded of that peaceful and happy creative process that you had a hand in.
