Maker Bio
Soy Laura, la creadora de Communication Crafted. Soy logopeda escolar con 15 años de experiencia, trabajando principalmente en primaria. Conectar y construir relaciones con los estudiantes es mi máxima prioridad; esta es la base de nuestro trabajo conjunto. Una forma de fomentar esa conexión es usar materiales atractivos, divertidos y motivadores para los estudiantes; ¡así es como los niños aprenden mejor! También entiendo lo ocupados que están los logopedas y lo difícil que puede ser planificar actividades atractivas para diversos grupos de alumnos cada día. Mi objetivo es proporcionar materiales cuidadosamente seleccionados que se encuentren entre lo divertido y lo funcional, materiales que aborden una amplia variedad de objetivos sin que se sientan como "trabajo", ni para los niños ni para ti.
La baraja de cartas SILLY GOOSE! empezó como una baraja personal que hice para mi propia sala de terapia. La imprimí con las pocas páginas a color que tenía en mi escuela y la plastifiqué en la laminadora grande del taller. Rápidamente se convirtió en la favorita de estudiantes de todas las edades, niveles y objetivos. La usaba una y otra vez, principalmente por su capacidad para abordar una amplia variedad de objetivos terapéuticos y, al mismo tiempo, ser atractiva para los estudiantes (y para mí). Con el tiempo, empecé a preguntarme si habría algo similar disponible en el mercado; como no pude encontrar nada, ¡decidí hacerla yo misma! Luego, se crearon documentos complementarios de descarga digital para ayudar a aligerar la preparación de la terapia y maximizar la utilidad de la baraja. Estoy muy orgullosa de estos recursos y espero que también se incluyan en tu sala de terapia.
También soy artesana desde hace mucho tiempo, en el sentido literal de la palabra. Últimamente, dedico la mayor parte del tiempo a tejer y coser, y he estado desarrollando una serie de telas personalizadas con temática de SLP para transformarlas en divertidos accesorios de trabajo hechos a mano que te ayudarán a organizarte y a mostrar tu orgullo por el habla. Cada artículo está hecho a mano por mí en mi estudio en casa, por eso las cantidades son limitadas (léase: si ves algo que te encanta, ¡más vale que lo hagas antes de que alguien más se lo lleve!).

I'm Laura, the maker behind Communication Crafted. I'm a school-based Speech Language Pathologist (SLP) who has been practicing for 15 years and counting, working primarily at the elementary level. Connecting and building relationships with students is my top priority - this is the very foundation that our shared work rests on. One way to foster that connection is to use materials that are engaging, fun, and motivating for students - this is how kids learn best! I also understand how busy SLPs are and how challenging it can be to plan engaging activities for diverse caseloads every single day. My goal is to provide thoughtfully curated materials that sit at the intersection of fun and functional, materials that address a wide variety of goals that don't feel like "work" - for the kids OR for you.
The SILLY GOOSE! card deck started as a personal deck that I made for my own therapy room, printed with my limited allotment of color pages at my school site and laminated on the big workroom laminator. It quickly became a favorite with students across ages, ability levels, and goals. I would find myself reaching for this deck time and time again, mainly for its ability to address a wide variety of therapy targets while being engaging for the students (and for me). I eventually started to wonder if anything else like it was available commercially; since I couldn't find anything, I decided to make it myself! Digital download companion documents were then crafted to help lighten your therapy prep and maximize the utility of the card deck. I'm really proud of these resources and hope that they will find their way into your therapy room too!
I'm also a longtime crafter in the literal sense. These days I spend most of my time weaving and sewing, and I've been developing a series of custom SLP-themed fabrics to transform into playful handmade work accessories to help you get organized and show off your speechie pride. Every sewn item is handmade by me in my home-based studio, which is why quantities are limited (read: if you see something you love, you better act right away before someone else snatches it up!).
