From Cumba to Jumba, A Story Rooted in Wood
Our name has a history.
A cumba is a traditional Anatolian bay window, handcrafted from wood, designed to bring light and soul into a home. Our grandfather was a master carpenter who built them. Our designer, Derya Marangoz, carries her craft in her very name — 'Marangoz' means carpenter in Turkish, a surname given to her grandfather in the 1920s for his mastery of wood. Some legacies are written in surnames. That craft never left us. Today, as an architect and an entrepreneur based in Ankara, we carry that legacy forward, not through windows, but through the objects that quietly shape daily life. At Jumba Design, we believe that the objects around us shape how we feel, think, and move through life.
Our product development philosophy is built on four principles:
1. Calm and Order
A well-organised space creates a sense of control. When we can manage our belongings, we are better able to manage the demands of everyday life. Our designs help reduce visual clutter and bring calm to daily routines.
2. Preparedness and Confidence
A clothing rack is more than a place to hang garments. It serves as a preparation station for the day ahead. Seeing tomorrow's outfit in advance reduces uncertainty and creates a quiet sense of readiness and confidence.
3. Self-Respect
Clothing is often the armour we wear in the outside world. Treating it carelessly can diminish the value we place on ourselves. By giving personal belongings a dedicated place, we foster habits of care, dignity, and self-respect.
4. Aesthetic Pleasure
Function alone is not enough. We strive to create sculptural objects that enrich a space, bringing beauty, character, and enjoyment into everyday life. Jumba Design creates pieces that are not only useful but meaningful, helping people build calmer, more intentional, and more beautiful lives.
