La retraite, un coup de pouce et un acte de foi
Retirement, a Nudge and a Leap of Faith
J'ai toujours adoré bricoler, concevoir et créer des choses qui apportent un peu de bonheur aux autres. J'ai même caressé l'idée d'ouvrir un jour mon entreprise pour partager ma créativité et mes créations, mais la vie en a décidé autrement. Professeur de mathématiques et d'informatique pendant 40 ans, j'adorais mon métier, mais le travail, la famille et le quotidien me prenaient tout mon temps. Je n'avais guère de temps pour exploiter mon côté créatif, et mon petit rêve d'entreprise est resté enfoui au fond de mon esprit. Puis la Covid est arrivée, et avec elle la retraite – et soudain, je me suis retrouvée avec quelque chose que je n'avais jamais eu auparavant : du temps.
Le plus drôle, c'est que je n'avais pas prévu de me lancer dans cette aventure tout de suite. Tout a commencé six ans plus tard, lorsque ma sœur m'a parlé de la vente de ses cartes faites main. Soudain, j'ai eu une illumination : « Je peux faire ça aussi ! ». Alors, j'ai fait le grand saut, et me voilà !
Aujourd'hui, je passe mes journées à créer, à concevoir, à explorer de nouvelles idées et à transformer l'inspiration en objets qui, je l'espère, feront sourire quelqu'un. Il peut s'agir d'un t-shirt drôle ou touchant, d'une tasse joyeuse, d'une carte de vœux pour une personne chère ou d'un tout nouveau produit que j'ai soudainement envie d'essayer.
Ce qui n'était au départ qu'un rêve pour lequel je n'avais jamais le temps est devenu une partie intégrante de mon quotidien. La retraite m'a offert le temps nécessaire, ma sœur m'a encouragée, et une grande foi m'a donné le courage de me lancer. Avec l'aide du Seigneur, je réussirai à le réaliser !

I’ve always loved crafting, designing, and creating things that bring a little happiness to others. I even toyed with having a business someday where I could share my creativity and the things I love to make, but life had other plans. As a Math and Computer Science teacher for 40 years, I loved what I did, but work, family, and everyday life kept me busy. I didn’t have much time to make use of the creative, other side of my brain, so my little business dream stayed tucked away in the back of my mind. Then Covid hit and with it, retirement—and suddenly, I had something I had never had before: time.
The funny thing is, I didn’t plan to start this journey right away. It all started 6 years later when my sister mentioned that she was selling her handmade cards, and suddenly the light went on “I can do that too!”. So I took a leap of faith—a BIG leap—and here I am!
Today, I get to spend my days creating, designing, exploring new ideas, and turning inspiration into things that I hope will make someone else smile. It might be a funny or heartfelt t-shirt, a cheerful mug, a greeting card for someone special, or some completely new product that I suddenly get inspired to try.
What started as a dream I never had enough time for has become a part of my everyday life. Retirement gave me the time, my sister gave me the nudge, and a whole lot of faith gave me the courage to begin, and with the Lord's help I'll be able to make it happen!
