My husband has never called me disabled.
I never could breathe after a bout of killer influenza as a toddler. As I grew up, my lungs and breathlessness got worse with subsequent bouts of pneumonia. But he encouraged me to climb to the top of a Mayan temple in a Mexican jungle. I made that climb for him. He walked with me on the Great Wall of China. And he held my hand when my lung capacity dropped to 19 percent, and we talked to a lung transplant surgeon and I was placed on home oxygen.
Another man might have despaired. He said I made him happy.
Now, out to dinner with his co-workers, the man whose career spans a globe leans back and encourages me to shine and talk about my designs.
And I do.
I talk about the pain oxygen users feel and how their equipment doesn’t work well for them. I show how our product, the O2 FRESH nasal cannula cover, helps to make using oxygen at home easier and more hygienic. The award won, the design and utility patents, and our good reviews. He listens and smiles.
He trusted me when I said we should make O2 FRESH products available for everyone living with oxygen. He's seen the struggle and wants to help others, too.
