A partire dal liceo ho avuto la passione di creare e ho iniziato a creare gioielli con perline - facendo pezzi personalizzati per i clienti e realizzando le mie creazioni da vendere a fiere e mercati artigianali. Tuttavia, sono cresciuto personalmente e attraverso i miei progetti negli ultimi sei anni. Non capivo l'apprezzamento di mia madre per tutto ciò che era vintage e antico. La nostra casa è piena di mobili antichi, e anche se è bella non ho mai capito il suo valore o importanza. Lentamente ho iniziato a rendermi conto che tutti i mobili che acquisti da Target o IKEA sono alla moda ed eccitanti... ma di solito cade a pezzi con la normale usura per un paio d'anni. La mia stanza a casa nostra aveva sempre supporti tv e tavoli traballanti, ma il resto della casa aveva tavoli e armadi in legno massello che avevano attraversato i secoli, ed era ancora bello, unico ed eccitante. Una volta capito questo sui mobili, ho capito rapidamente le stesse cose su molti altri aspetti della nostra cultura di vendita oggi. Una cosa è innegabile: le cose non sono fatte come una volta. Allora perché scherzare con tutti i mobili / gioielli / opere d'arte mediocri e non originali e così via? Preferirei di gran lunga avere qualcosa che nessun altro ha, e che non può mai essere ricreato nella sua interezza.

È stato allora che ho trovato la mia vocazione, il mio tocco personale per portare il vecchio nel nuovo e renderlo alla moda ed eccitante in un modo completamente nuovo. Ammettiamolo: i negozi di oggi non fanno gioielli come una volta. I gioielli di strass del passato a volte hanno alcune alterazioni di colore, ma credere che qualcosa del genere sia cambiato su un pezzo e che sia ancora vibrante e sbalorditivo a modo suo è innegabile. Se questi pezzi di strass possono sembrare così belli ora, allora non riesco a immaginare quanto fossero incredibili nuovi di zecca.

Ho scelto il nome ReDefined per la mia azienda perché non cerco di prendermi il merito del lavoro che è già stato fatto. I gioielli vintage di strass sono stati creati magnificamente e questo non è in parte dovuto a me. Imparo e fornisco quante più informazioni possibili su un pezzo che creo al cliente. Se designer come Coro o Sarah Coventry hanno realizzato questi elementi vintage, allora do loro credito. Ridefinisco gioielli, realizzando spille e orecchini che non sarebbero indossati così comunemente nel loro intento originale oggi in qualcosa di nuovo, bello e unico. Me ne prendo il merito, mi prendo il merito di ridefinire ciò che è già stato realizzato, abbinandolo ad altri elementi vintage che si completano a vicenda e realizzando un pezzo originale che si può essere sicuri sia fatto da qualcosa che durerà.

Starting in highschool I had a passion to create, and started creating beaded jewelry - doing custom pieces for customers and making my own creations to sell at craft fairs and markets. However, I have grown personally and through my designs in the past six years. I didn't understand my mother's appreciation for everything vintage and antique. Our house is filled with antique furniture, and although its beautiful I never understood its value or importance. Slowly I started to realize that all the furniture you buy at Target or IKEA is trendy and exciting... but will usually fall apart with normal wear and tear over a couple years. My room at our house always had wobbly tv stands and tables, but the rest of the house had solid wood tables and cabinets that had made it through centuries, and was still beautiful, unique and exciting. Once I realized this about furniture I quickly realized the same things about many other aspects of our sales culture today. One thing is undeniable- things aren't made the way they used to be. So why fool around with all the mediocre and unoriginal furniture/jewelry/artwork and etc? I would much rather have something that nobody else has, and that can never be recreated in its entirety.

That's when I found my calling, my own twist to bring the old into the new and make it trendy and exciting in a whole new way. Let's face it - the stores of today do not make jewelry like they used to. Rhinestone jewelry from the past sometimes has some color alterations but to believe that something like that has changed on a piece and that it is still vibrant and stunning in its own way is undeniable. If these rhinestone pieces can look this good now, then I can't imagine how amazing they were brand new.

I chose the name ReDefined for my company because I don't try to take credit for the work that has already been done. The rhinestone vintage jewelry was created beautifully and that is in no part due to me. I learn and provide as much information as I can about a piece I create to the customer. If designers like Coro or Sarah Coventry made these vintage elements then I give them credit. I re-define jewelry, making brooches and earrings that wouldn't be worn that commonly in their original intent today into something new, beautiful and unique. I take credit for that, I take credit for redefining what was already made, pairing it with other vintage elements that compliment each other and making an original piece that you can be sure is made from something that will last.
