The Birth of Symbols of Soul
Although I started as an artist, it had been years since I worked consistently. Working full time and being a single mother to two children kept life hectic. In 2008, my children were almost grown and I had more time to get back to my art. I decided to make Christmas presents that year and designed the first affirmation mirrors. Mirrors to look into, while saying affirmations based on the work of Louise Hay in her book You Can Heal Your Life. My friends liked the mirror and I started to sell them in a small gallery. From there I moved to creating small collages (often with angels) and making prayer boxes and Tibetan prayer wheels. I teach spiritual studies at the Southwest School of Healing Arts (SWIHA) so most my work has either a spiritual or a symbolic theme.
I wish I could say I have a studio but I must confess that I create most of my work standing on the kitchen counter which looks straight at the family room TV. It works wonderfully but my family is not always happy with the lack of cooking space!
My goal is to express my creativity with work that inspires and enhances your imagination. The work I create brings me joy and I hope it puts a smile on your face too! As Carl Jung once said "Only the symbolic life can express the need of the soul." I hope Symbols of Soul does just that.
