Founded in truth. Rooted in time.
Tavish & Bishop Timepieces was born not from a boardroom, but from the quiet, personal rhythm of a man’s lifelong fascination with time. Born in 1976, our founder was raised in the Laurentian Mountains of Quebec, where life moved at a slower, more deliberate pace. With family ties to Harrington and Kilmar, and roots that run deep in the quiet hills north of Montréal, his story is one many Quebecers will recognize — one shaped by winter silence, summer rivers, and the sound of a ticking wall clock echoing down the hallway at night. As a child, he would lie in bed listening to that steady tick coming from the kitchen clock, amazed at how constant it was. Long before he understood escapements or balance springs, he understood that something about that rhythm mattered. His mother later gave him his first two quartz watches, and while he didn’t yet know the difference between a battery and a mainspring, the fascination was already deep in his bones. His father later gifted him his first automatic timepiece — a gold-plated Bulova from circa 1973, originally given to his father by the woman who would become his wife. And that’s where this story truly begins.
What began as childhood curiosity slowly matured into reverence. Over time, he studied movements from all over the world — Swiss, Japanese, German, French, American, and Chinese — each with their own traditions, innovations, and contributions to modern watchmaking. Tavish & Bishop wasn’t born from convention. It came from a mind wired to notice what others overlook, to follow patterns — but never blindly. You could say the perspective was… divergent. That’s what makes our work different. Our journey began by restoring vintage movements — Swiss, Japanese, Chinese forgotten calibers that had gone silent. Not for resale, but for reverence. To bring them back was to listen. And to listen long enough was to learn how to create something new. This is how we learned to build timepieces of our own — not to chase trends, but to craft legacy.
Tavish & Bishop Timepieces is not a revival of something old or the creation of something new. It is a declaration: That time belongs to everyone. And beauty, like movement, must be shared.
A story we still smile about:
Not long ago, a neighbor asked for help replacing the battery in his wife’s watch — a gift he had given her years before. She was wearing it, even though it had stopped ticking. “Why wear a watch that doesn’t work?” he asked. She shrugged. “Because I like it.” He looked over at me a little bewildered, but clearly touched. I nodded toward his hand. “You’re wearing your wedding ring, aren’t you? It doesn’t tell time.” He paused, then smiled. “So is she,” I said. “Just on her wrist.” That’s what we build here — timepieces that matter even when they stop ticking. Because beauty, meaning, and connection don’t need to be powered to be felt.
