This is a print of my original fern herbarium specimen (pressed botanical) artwork. It was made from a high-resolution scan of the original.
The plant is Japanese climbing fern (Lygodium japonicum) and features both its sterile and fertile fronds. It was found in New Orleans, Louisiana and was collected by a trained, degreed professional (see my personal profile). A complete collection label is included in the standard location at the bottom right corner of the front of the specimen adding to its scientific appeal.
Japanese climbing fern is native to east Asia and invasive in the southern United States and Hawaii. It reproduces by spores that are wind released from sporangia that form on the undersides of the leaves. Look closely to see the sporangia in the photos!

==========
The original herbarium specimen was 11x14”. However, prints are available in 5x7”, 8x10”, 11x14”, and 16x20”!
The original specimen was made on natural-colored, archival-quality herbarium paper. The 5x7, 8x10, 11x14 prints are available on a similar "Light Background" paper: natural-colored, archival-quality, heavy-weight cardstock. For 16x20 prints, the "Light Background" is white, heavy poster paper.
All sizes are also available with a "Dark Background." In order to preserve the original colors of the plant, the dark background is digitally added to the artwork file prior to printing (on light-colored paper), resulting in a stunning contrast between the vibrant plant and the black background.
