"Cass Technical School was built in 1917 by architects William E. Higginbotham (1858-1923) and partner William G. Malcomson. They both designed many schools, churches and residential buildings throughout Detroit from 1894 to 1923. Albert Kahn Associates designed the modern addition which was completed in 1985. The school was damaged in a fire and abandoned in 2007 and later demolished."

Customers residing in the state of Michigan (MI) will have sales tax in the amount of 6% added to their order.

For our international customers, please keep in mind that any tariffs, taxes, or customs fees will be the responsibility of the buyer. The amount (if any) due is at the sole discretion of the customs agent that periodically inspects inbound parcels, we can not provide estimates. Orders sent back to us due to refusal or nonpayment of fees or taxes will be considered returns and you will be refunded the original purchase price minus a 15% restocking fee. Returns and exchange details
We will gladly refund or exchange your return-eligible order within two weeks of purchase (28 days for winter holiday orders). The tie, scarf, bow tie, pocket square, or other accessory is subject to a 15% restocking fee and must be unworn and in new condition with original tags. Refund is for purchase price only; as the USPS won't unship a package, we can't refund the cost of shipping.

##Is my order returnable?##

If your order meets the requirements above, typically we'll accept a return or exchange but not in all cases. Here's a list of what is ineligible:

- Custom color combinations: getting something printed in a different ink color, or special requesting a tie to be printed in the standard ink but on a different color tie than what is offered in the dropdown menu.

- Custom designs: your company logo or artwork whether silkscreen or sublimation dyed, all AlphabeTIES products, monogram/initials sublimation dye products, any tie with a message sublimated onto the tail, products with more than one printed design on a single item or items with two or more printings of the same design.

- Group orders: 3 or more of the same ink or product color, for example 6 Sucker ties with black ink on sage, or 4 differently colored Cherry Blossom pashminas all with orchid ink.

##I've changed my mind or don't like it. How do I return an item?##

To return an item, please email us. If your order is eligible for return, we'll give you our return address and a RMA number. Send the item back to us via any shipping method you prefer and upon receipt of your order, we'll refund you. You can also return the tie to our retail storefront if you've been issued an RMA, just let us know you'll be dropping it off so store staff knows to expect you.

##Can I exchange this for something else?##

If your order is eligible for return, send us an email detailing what you want to return and what you'd like instead. We'll provide you with our mailing address to send the unwanted item back. When your item is received, if it's in new unused condition, we'll send you a money request via PayPal for a 15% restocking fee in addition to the cost of shipping the replacement and any increase in cost (if applicable). You may also come into the retail shop for the exchange in which case you'd be invoiced for the restocking fee but not the shipping. We regret that we can't send the replacement until the original product is back in our hands but if your order is time sensitive, we recommend placing a second order for the thing you want and we can process your exchange as a refund.

##I didn't order this! You sent me the wrong thing!##

If your order doesn't seem correct, send us a message with a clear photo of what you received. Any damaged items or color errors on our part will of course be replaced with no restocking fee.

##The thing I ordered arrived late and now I don't need it and I want a refund!##

We are not responsible for delays caused by the USPS or customs agencies. If your order meets the requirements to be returned, you'll receive a refund of the original purchase price minus a 15% restocking fee and the shipping, because we can't unship the package and we can't unmake your stuff.

We are not responsible for mistakes made by the USPS including packages stolen from doorsteps or mailboxes, items damaged in transit, boxes that arrive without their contents, misdirected or misdelivered packages, delayed or infrequent tracking updates, or any other sort of operational bungling.

##What about customs? Will I have to pay duty and import tax?##

##Where is my package coming from?##

The Cyberoptix TieLab is located on the second floor of a historic former furniture warehouse in downtown Detroit, just a couple of minutes walk from the legendary Historic Eastern Market. The zip code is 48207 for those handy with the USPS ship time estimator.

##How long before my order ships?##

We're speedy! Orders placed M-F usually ship in the next day or two as all ties and scarves are printed to order. Orders placed on Saturday or Sunday will typically ship on Tuesday (or Wednesday if Monday is a holiday). Calculating your arrival time is a bit of a dark art but we promise, we're the fastest in the industry for what we do!

For shipping calculation, if you order after 4pm Friday (for example), your order will be processed but not printed until the print team returns Monday morning. Your order would then ship Tuesday which would be the first business day. This timeframe is an example only and actual production time will vary based on material availability, the size of your order, if your order includes something printed with reflective ink (add 2 days for extra drying time), the numbers of orders ahead of yours, and similar factors. Large orders can sometimes take up to 2 weeks to print but generally things are printed much sooner than that.

##What carrier do you use? How long does shipping take?##

We ship Priority Mail via USPS within the United States, which takes from 2-3 business days to arrive once shipped. Outside of the US, we ship First Class International, which can take anywhere from 7-21 business days to arrive once we ship. If you need it faster, you can upgrade to Express domestic, Priority Mail International, or Express International at the checkout (It's pretty expensive though, and prices are not set by us, so please don't get mad!)

##I need it to arrive on Sunday/holiday/before noon! Is this possible?##

If you have ordered Express shipping, we can specify that your package be delivered by 10:30am (+$5.00) or on Sunday/holiday (+$12.50). These upgrade fees are in addition to the quoted price of Express shipping and are only available for our US customers. Please contact us to arrange payment for these upgrades as you're unable to add them yourself at the checkout.

##If I order with Express on Friday will I get it on Saturday?##

We can’t bend time, as much as we'd like to. Express orders take 1-2 business days depending on the destination zip code. If you choose Express on Friday before 10am EST, it should arrive by Monday latest but many major cities could see the package arrive on Saturday. If you're in a time crunch, please email us with the zip code you'd like it to go to, and we can provide a better estimate on Express times.

##What if I am in Alaska or Hawaii or APO/FPO?##

We still love you a lot and we wish we could visit you to see your awesome landscape! Please allow 3-4 business days for USPS Priority Mail (our standard shipping) and 2 to 3 business days for Express shipping. For APO/FPO orders, please allow a bit longer -- times vary on those, but we're proud to deliver to our service men and women.

##Can you mark my package as a gift so I don't have to pay customs/duty?##

Sorry, we never mark merchandise as a gift, that is not legal. The fines after getting busted purposely marking things wrong are pretty terrible and we (or you!) can't afford it! Any tariffs, taxes, or customs fees are the sole responsibility of the buyer. When you import items from outside your home country, from time to time customs offices decide there is money due, especially on larger orders. We do mark at replacement value rather than full retail to help ease the pain a little. The amount (if any) due is at the sole discretion of the customs agent that periodically inspects inbound parcels, we here at the 'Lab have no way of providing estimates of taxes/duty due.

##My order is marked as delivered but I don't have it. What now?##

If your package is already on its way, there are a couple ways of handling things. If we messed up and sent your package to the incorrect address we're happy to reship the order to you on our dime. If we were given an old or inaccurate address (the address was right but the apartment number was left off, or the house number was entered as 1449 instead of 1440) then you are responsible for the cost of shipping the package again and we will send you a PayPal money request to cover the cost. Please, please double check your address to be certain everything is perfect!

##I got a notice that I owe customs fees but I don't want to pay it and they sent it back to you. Reship it to me at once!##

Orders returned by customs can be shipped again, we will send you an invoice for the price of reshipment via whichever speed you prefer.

If you don't want to pay to have the items reshipped, your order will be considered returned and you will be refunded the original purchase price minus a 15% restocking fee unless your order isn't eligible for return. Please consult the returns section for more information.

##I checked the tracking and my package is stuck and hasn't moved in days! HELP!##

Tracking is not the most reliable and often causes worry when there is none, especially for our international customers. Sadly, not everyone in the post system is as type-A as we are about posting updates. Frequently the package will say that it's "departed Chicago sorting facility" and there will be nothing for sometimes a week or more until it's scanned somewhere on the other side. It's not uncommon for international packages to take a month or longer to arrive via First Class Mail. For international orders, if it has been more than 21 business days and your package still hasn't arrived, send us an email. On the US side of things, if it's been several days and your package hasn't been updated, send us an convo.

##I paid for Express and it was supposed to be here in X days but it's late!##

Express domestic is the only method for which the USPS will guarantee an arrival date. If your package arrives late in some cases we can refund your shipping, contact us for more info.

USPS does not guarantee arrival dates for many countries and customs delays can significantly delay a package. Usually not Express or Priority packages, but sometimes those too. We are not responsible for shipping delays caused by customs agencies or delivery companies.

##I already placed an order with standard shipping but now I need it faster. How do I upgrade an order already in progress?##

Easy! Just send a convo or email and we'll handle it.

##How are orders packaged?##

For regular orders, we wrap the entire order as a single bundle in recycled brown kraft tissue paper and butcher's string with a card explaining how to care for our products. Single gift boxes are sent in bubble wrap inside a bubble mailer while multiple gift boxes will travel together in style, snuggled in a nest of heavy brown paper tucked inside a cardboard shipping box.

Frequently the package will say that it's "departed Chicago sorting facility" and there will be nothing for sometimes a week or more until it's scanned somewhere on the other side. It's not uncommon for international packages to take a month or longer to arrive via First Class Mail. For international orders, if it has been more than 21 business days and your package still hasn't arrived, send us an email. On the US side of things, if it's been several days and your package hasn't been updated, send us an convo.

##I paid for Express and it was supposed to be here in X days but it's late!##

Express domestic is the only method for which the USPS will guarantee an arrival date. If your package arrives late in some cases we can refund your shipping, contact us for more info.

USPS does not guarantee arrival dates for many countries and customs delays can significantly delay a package. Usually not Express or Priority packages, but sometimes those too. We are not responsible for shipping delays caused by customs agencies or delivery companies.

##I already placed an order with standard shipping but now I need it faster. How do I upgrade an order already in progress?##

##How are orders packaged?##

For regular orders, we wrap the entire order as a single bundle in recycled brown kraft tissue paper and butcher's string with a card explaining how to care for our products. Single gift boxes are sent in bubble wrap inside a bubble mailer while multiple gift boxes will travel together in style, snuggled in a nest of heavy brown paper tucked inside a cardboard shipping box.

In Detroit? You can get a shipping refund if you pick up at our retail shop!

We treat every package like a gift - it comes wrapped all together with brown paper and string (because it is a wonderful thing!) and a care card. We never include prices or an invoice, so your gift-recipient eyes will never see that stuff. If you require one, please just let us know!

We also offer paperboard gift boxes, high-end wood gift boxes and hand-written note cards for purchase too.
Standard Tie: ~3 1/8”-4" wide x 58” long. (aka “regular”/wide/traditional). This is the flagship “safe” bet, good for gifting, Dads, office dudes, & anyone but the smallest framed.

Narrow Tie: ~2 3/8"-3" wide x 58” long. (aka modern cut/slim). This is the “Goldilocks” middle width that looks good on just about everyone, except the largest frames. Younger and more fashionable. What guys often buy for themselves!

Skinny Tie: ~1.5” wide x 58” long. We don’t sell as many of these, but they're very young and the most fashion forward. For small frames and great for women too! Limited colors in microfiber only.

Bow ties: One size, ~14"-20" neck size.

Scarves (Linen-weave & Traditional Pashmina): One size, 28” wide x 80” long with fringe.

Microfiber neckties, bow ties and pocket squares [Easy care!]:
Hand wash in cool water and take care not to rub the design too hard. You can also machine wash on delicate in a mesh bag or knotted pillow case. Creases and folds? Iron on medium heat; you can iron directly on the design.

Silk neckties:
Spot clean or dry clean only, never machine wash or immerse in water. Creases and folds? Iron on medium to high heat.

Regular weight and linen-weave pashmina scarves:
Hand wash or machine wash on delicate in a mesh bag or knotted pillow case so it doesn't stretch and tangle. Hang or preferably dry flat, do NOT machine/tumble dry! Creases and folds? Iron with high heat.
Custom color orders are non-refundable. Please be sure you see our colors in real life by ordering swatches before you order! Custom orders for 1-3 ties or scarves take no extra time.
