'On Toadstool Lane' is a series of patterns. This listing is for the PDF pattern to make Mr and Mrs Mouse and their twin babies only. The other patterns in the set shown in images are sold separately. The pattern will arrive to you as one file that prints to a standard Australian A4 sheet of paper with no cutting or sticking required to create the pattern sheet.
The full set of patterns comprise the toadstool house, its furniture, a little red car and the mouse couple and their twins to whom all these goodies belong. You'll find a listing for all the separate patterns in my Etsy store. You can buy them as either PDF or as paper patterns.
On Toadstool Lane is made using a combination of wool felt, embroidery threads and different grades of cardboard. The method used to create them was inspired by the crafts I saw and knew as a child. No sewing machine is necessary and only very basic hand stitches, predominately blanket stitch are used.
The set is very playable and is a magnet to children. The cap of the toadstool house removes easily and can be set aside so young hands can reach in. The windows are generous as well to allow for furniture to be arranged and domestic mousey scenes to be glimpsed through. Every child who touches the set wants to settle the mice into their beds or sit them in their chairs by the table. Mr and Mrs Mouse have newborn twins that sleep together in a flower covered bassinet which fits snugly into the back of the car when the family heads out for a drive through the countryside.
I designed this pattern with the patient maker and gentle player in mind. There are a lot of parts that go into the design and it lends itself beautifully to quiet lap work of an evening or when you find a spot in your day that you'd like to fill with stitching. I also had the travelling crafter or clandestine birthday present stitcher in mind. Until the walls are raised, the furniture finally assembled and the car takes shape the project could be easily squirreled away from a child's eye or fitted within luggage while traveling. The nature of felt lends itself well to both of these options as it doesn't matter how much it's handled it won't fray.
Depending on the age of the child that will use the pattern you may wish to omit small buttons or the beads that are used in the project to suggest flowers and instead replace them with a French knot stitch which will give a similar effect and not pose a choking hazzard.
Please note that as I'm an Australian designer. All measurements will be given using the metric system.
I go to every length to provide detailed and easily understood written instructions but if you do have any bumps in the road while making these designs don't hesitate to contact me (jenny@frazzydazzles.com) and I'll provide you with any help, tips or support you need to finish your little family and their home.
While I'm happy for you as the purchaser to make the Toadstool Lane projects and sell your work on a small scale such through a market I do ask that all labeling and marketing material identify myself and or Frazzy Dazzles as the original designer. The copying of and or re-selling/re-distribution of this pattern either in paper or digital form just isn't very nice...
Thank you for taking the time to look at my little Toadstool set! If you like my designs you might like to follow my Frazzy Dazzles page of Facebook and Instagram. That's where I share all new and emerging designs first.
