About

I make what I love, animals both real and mythological!

Art by Aelia started as a hobby, I (Aelia) made jewelry that I wished I could buy, but didn't exist. Friends and family started asking to buy pieces, word spread to their contacts, and ultimately I decided to open up a shop in 2011! Although the materials and subjects have evolved over the years, I always follow my passions and make things that I love! I hope that you'll love them too!

I'm Aelia, and I'm a giant nerd! I love the fantasy, science fiction & horror genres, and have a passion for animals. When I'm not making art (for work or play) I enjoy war-gamming (Hobbit SBG!), board-gaming, and devouring books, movies & tv shows.

I include a printed list of Care Tips with every order that contains suggestions for ensuring the longevity of your jewelry. These tips vary depending on the type of jewelry (material, finish, etc), but some general guidelines can be found below:

My pieces are wearable art, not mass-produced jewelry. Although I do everything I can to ensure the longevity of a piece, they should be treated with care in order to protect them long-term.

Avoid wearing in the shower, pool, bathtub, lake, ocean etc. Do not soak for extended periods of time. Be particularly careful around chlorinated water, which could cause discolouration. Also, do not leave your jewelry in a damp environment for prolonged periods. This is especially important for painted pieces. A splash here and there won't hurt, but submersion in the bath or pool may be damaging over time.

Keep away from oil-based products (including hair spray, perfume, deodorant, and sunscreen), these can be damaging to the varnish, paint, and resin. Consider your jewelry the finishing touch, add it last, after allowing perfumes, deodorants, and hairsprays to set thoroughly.

Avoid wearing your jewelry 24/7, that will greatly accelerate the wear and tear. Body oils may affect the finish over time. By removing the piece before going to bed and showing, it will last significantly longer.

Do not wear your jewelry when working with household cleaners or chemicals (including nail polish remover).

Do not pull and/or tug excessively on your jewelry, especially parts that stick out (tails, horns, etc). Similarly, try to protect your jewelry from sharp blows, including drops.

Keep away from high temperatures (don’t leave in a hot vehicle or on heating vents for prolonged periods of time), and out of direct sunlight when not being worn to prevent colour fading.

If required clean only with a damp cloth (and if necessary, mild dish soap), and dry completely before storing. Do NOT immerse in liquid jewelry cleaners, as the chemicals may have adverse affects on the material. Do not allow your jewelry to go through the washing machine.

Keep out of reach of small children and pets, small pieces may present a hazard.

Please keep your jewelry in a cool, dry place, away from direct sunlight when not being worn.

In the case of painted pieces, occassionally applying an additional coat of varnish will extend the life of your jewelry, especially if you wear it a lot. Please contact me for information about the best product to use (water-based products in a variety of brands are good, NEVER oil-based finishes).

This list doesn’t cover every possible contingency, so if you have any unanswered questions about wearing your jewelry, please feel free to ask me! You can email me at Art_By_Aelia [!at] ymail.com

Frequently asked questions

How long does shipping take?

Shipping to Canada usually takes 1-2 weeks.
Shipping to the United States usually takes 1-2 weeks.
Shipping to the Rest of the World is typically 1-3 weeks.

Some remote locations may take longer. Customs may cause unexpected delays, but that is rare.

Custom and personalized orders

Yes! I am currently open for custom orders, although this is not always the case.

Care instructions

I include a detailed list of care tips with every item. Because I use different materials care tips vary a little bit. Some general guidelines to follow include:

Avoid getting your jewelry wet, or submerging in any liquid.

Avoid knocking or banging your jewelry, do not pull or tug on it excessively.

Keep pieces away from oil-based products such as hair spray, perfume, deodorant and sunscreen as they may damage the finish and/or paint.

Avoid wearing your jewelry 24/7 as this will accelerate wear and tear dramatically.

Keep away from high temperatures (don't leave in a hot vehicle or on a heating vent).

If required, clean only with a damp cloth, and if necessary, mild dish soap.

Keep in a cool, dry place when not in use.

Is your jewelry waterproof?

Water resistance varies depending on the type of piece:

Unpainted Resin (faux amber, dragon egg silhouette necklaces, etc) are very water resistant, although may become discoloured if submerged in a liquid or exposed to chemicals such as chlorine in a swimming pool.

Pewter Jewelry is very water resistant, but submersion in liquids should be avoided as this may cause discolouration of the metal.

Painted Resin (Dragon Drapers, or any other painted pieces) should not be exposed to water or excessive moisture. They should be wiped clean only with a damp cloth if so required, and never submerged in any liquid. These pieces have been varnished, and as such are water resistant to the occasional splash, but more than that should be avoided.

How durable are your pieces?

Most pieces are made out of a type of resin which is quite durable. However, it is still important to remember that these pieces are hand-crafted, not mass produced. If they are dropped or banged around there is a chance small pieces could break, or the paint (if applicable) could chip. Consider your piece "wearable art", rather than typical jewelry, and treat it accordingly.

Can you make a keychain, or magnet, or brooch, or something other than a necklace?

Yes I can! But ideally, I need to know before you purchase because not all pieces are suited for all purposes.
