"Não se deve julgar um livro pela capa."

Bem, na minha opinião, isso é verdade. Assim como você não deve julgar a qualidade de um escritor pelo fato de ele ter ou não um agente literário, ou se ele trabalha para uma grande editora.

Meu nome é Tiffany Terlop e sou escritora e artista – passei a vida inteira tentando fazer algo com minha escrita e arte – e simplesmente nunca consegui.

"Não era a sua hora. Você precisa de mais seguidores no Instagram. Poste com frequência! Reescreva o manuscrito até que aquele agente fique satisfeito!" E continua sem parar.

Muitas, muitas coisas me levaram a abrir esta loja. Essa é uma longa história por si só, mas saiba apenas que sou uma azarona e torço pelos azarões. Escritores independentes? Eles são os azarões por excelência.

A vida de um autor independente é realmente difícil. Eu sei porque sou um deles. Eles precisam escrever tudo sozinhos, encontrar leitores beta, às vezes pagá-los, pagar editores, pagar pela formatação, pagar pelas capas dos livros, pagar por produtos licenciados, pagar por isso, pagar pelaquilo, E ainda precisam ter seguidores nas redes sociais, E precisam fazer tudo isso com uma família e um emprego (na maioria dos casos).

Sei o quanto é difícil para eles encontrarem seus leitores e sei que nem todos têm um grande orçamento (eu diria que quase todos nós temos orçamento quase nenhum). Sinto muito pelos autores independentes quando não têm as melhores capas de livro ou a sinopse mais incrível. As pessoas julgam seus livros com base nisso e muitas ignoram esse detalhe. Mas, no caso de autores independentes, você realmente NÃO PODE julgar um livro pela capa. Uma capa ruim ou uma sinopse fraca (porque escrever um romance de 80 mil palavras é MUITO diferente de escrever uma sinopse de 100 palavras, deixe-me explicar) não significa que eles não possam escrever uma história incrivelmente boa.

Então, se você está aqui na minha loja e leu até aqui, definitivamente leia a próxima parte.

Esta loja é para o leitor que quer ler livros que você NÃO viu nas prateleiras da Barnes & Noble. É para o leitor que ama ler, não pelo selo do NYT ou porque está na moda... eles simplesmente amam ler e descobrir histórias novas e incríveis.

Todos os livros desta loja são de autores independentes com pouca ou nenhuma presença nas redes sociais. Ocultei as capas e as sinopses porque não quero que o leitor descarte o livro com base nisso.

Eu selecionei pessoalmente todos os livros desta loja, conversei com os autores e ilustrei (sem nenhum custo para eles) os produtos relacionados aos seus livros.

Acredito em autores, artistas e criadores independentes. Torço pelos azarões.

E você não consegue derrubar um bom cão!

PS: Todos os livros independentes desta loja foram comprados por mim com meu próprio dinheiro. Em alguns casos, os autores tiveram a gentileza de doar seus livros.

"You shouldn't judge a book by it's cover."

Well, in my opinion, that's true. Just like you shouldn't judge how good a writer a person is by whether or not they have a literary agent, or whether or not they have a Big 5 publishing house.

My name is Tiffany Terlop and I'm a writer and an artist--who has spent her entire life trying to make something of her writing and art--and it just never ever happened.

"It wasn't your time. You need more fans on IG. Post consistently! Rewrite the manuscript until that one single agent is happy!" It goes on and on.

Many, many things have led me to opening this shop. That is a big 'ol story in itself, but just know that I'm an UNDERDOG and I ROOT for the underdogs out there. Indie writers? They're the ultimate underdogs.

Indie authors have it really tough. I know because I am one. They have to write all on their own, find beta readers, sometimes pay them, pay editors, pay for formatting, pay for book covers, pay for merch, pay for this, pay for that, AND they have to have a social media following, AND they have to do all this with a family and a job (in most cases).

I know how hard it is for them to find their readers and I know that they don't all have a big budget (I'd argue almost all of us have barely ANY budget). I feel for indie writers when they don't have the best book covers, or the most amazing book blurb. People judge their books based on that and many brush it aside. But in the case of indie authors, you really CANNOT judge a book by the cover. A bad cover or rough blurb (because writing a 80k word novel is VASTLY different than writing a 100-word book blurb, let me be the one to tell you) doesn't mean they can't write one hell of a good story.

So if you're here at my shop and you've read this far, then definitely read this next part.

This shop is for the reader who wants to read books that you HAVEN'T seen on the shelf at Barnes n Noble. This is for the reader that loves to read, not for the NYT label or because it's what's trending... they just love to read and discover new and amazing stories.

All of the books in this store are by indie authors with little to no social media following. I hid their book covers and their blurbs because I don't want the reader to brush it off based on that.

I personally have selected all of the books in this shop, had conversations with the authors, and have (at no charge to them) illustrated the merch for their books.

I believe in indie authors, artists, and creators. I root for the underdog.

And you can't keep a good dog down!
