What will you make of 2016?
Thanks for participating in Etsy Resolution 2016
The programme is now finished, but be sure to follow us on social media and keep your eye on the blog to keep up to date with all things Etsy!
What is Etsy?
Etsy is a marketplace where people around the world connect, both online and offline, to make, sell and buy unique goods.
The heart and soul of Etsy is our global community: the creative entrepreneurs who use Etsy to sell what they make or curate, the shoppers looking for things they can’t find anywhere else, the manufacturers who partner with Etsy sellers to help them grow, and the Etsy employees who maintain and nurture our marketplace.
You can find out more about us here.
What is Etsy Resolution?
Etsy Resolution is a step by step guide to opening your Etsy shop, mentored by top Etsy sellers from around the world. The program is designed help you flex your creative muscles and find the confidence to launch your online business. It aims to give you all the tools you need to start your thriving creative business on Etsy.
How does it work?
Each week you will receive an email with information on how to access the new lessons. We will also make an announcement via the dedicated Facebook group.
The lessons will be released weekly and will be available on this site. You can access the lessons in your own time, at your own pace.
Is there anything I should have prepared before the challenge begins?
In order to take part in the program you will need to sign up for an Etsy shop. We’re offering all participants the opportunity to list their first 20 products for free. To get started now, head to www.etsy.com/promotions and enter the code ETSYRESOLUTION2016. You only need one item to open your shop. Don’t worry about making your shop perfect, we’ll be working on that during the program.
If you’re able to, try to prepare some more product to stock in your shop before the challenge begins. Ideally you should have at least 6 different products on hand, and if you can manage more, that’s even better. As you’ll discover during the program, well-stocked shops tend to perform best.
How long does each lesson take?
This is a tricky question because it will vary from lesson to lesson and person to person. We encourage you to take your time and spend as long as you need until you feel comfortable with what you’ve learned that week. You may find some weeks more challenging than others, but remember to connect with the Facebook group if you feel like you need some help. Remember, everyone is in this together!
Is Etsy Resolution running in my country?
As Etsy Resolution is a new program, it is only available in the following selected countries at this stage:
Japan Hong Kong
If you’re located outside of these countries, check out the Etsy Seller Handbook for advice and inspiration for running your Etsy shop.
With so many countries participating, how can I ensure I receive locally relevant information?
Scroll to the bottom of this page and ensure your country and language preferences are correctly set.
Are there any tips for getting the most out of the program?
Yes! Here are our top tips for completing Etsy Resolution:
- Schedule some time in your calendar each week to dedicate to reading lessons, completing homework tasks and connecting with the community.
- Do your best to complete the homework tasks. It’s not like school, we promise. Homework tasks are completely optional but they have been designed to help you tackle the major milestones of opening your shop in manageable chunks. We’ll be encouraging you to share your homework in the Facebook group so that, as a community, we can encourage each other, lend advice and ask questions. It’s a pretty great opportunity to ask questions of your mentors as well as Etsy admin!
- Join the Etsy Resolution Facebook group – and don’t be shy. Connecting with others who are facing the same hurdles as you can be a game changer. Reach out and say hi to the group, ask a question, lend some advice…or just say something nice! You’ll probably make someone’s day.
I don’t use Facebook, can I still participate?
You sure can! All of the lessons will be released on the dedicated Etsy Resolution website, but we encourage you to join Facebook so you can access the group and connect with the community.
I’m already an Etsy seller. Can I take part in the programme?
Yes. Etsy Resolution is primarily a programme to help new sellers get started on Etsy. However, current Etsy sellers are welcome to take part and use Etsy Resolution as an opportunity to improve their shops for 2016.
I was told I can get free listing credits if I’m new to Etsy. What do I have to do?
If you haven’t registered on Etsy previously, welcome! We’re giving you a little gift to get you started. Simply visit etsy.com/promotions and enter the code ETSYRESOLUTION2016. This will apply 20 ‘listing credits’ to your account, meaning you won’t get charged the US20c listing fee for your first 20 products.
I’m already an Etsy seller, can I also redeem the promo code?
Unfortunately at this stage we are unable to credit existing seller accounts with free listings. However, you can always earn free listings through our seller referral programme.
Will I get direct feedback on my Etsy shop?
We have set up the dedicated Facebook group so that everyone has the opportunity to interact with fellow participants and mentors. The idea is for us all to come together as a community to improve and thrive. You will be able to ask questions via the Facebook groups and request feedback from the community. The lessons are set-up to help you launch an optimised Etsy shop from the outset so that you can look at your shop and recognise for yourself where you might be able to make improvements.
What can I expect to accomplish during the programme?
You can expect to launch a fully optimised Etsy shop during the programme. We will focus on helping you to master the skills of product photography, marketing and search engine optimisation in order to give you the best chance of success from the outset.
How long will the programme content be available?
The content will remain online until March 30, 2016.
