Rabatt is that really organized, neat, but very colourful ­flowerbed you pass by that really makes you feel like the world has a good and proper order to things! It is a two-coloured shawl knit from tip to tip, with a straight upper edge and a bent lower edge. It is framed by a nice i-cord edging that makes the orderly ­feeling complete! The leaves are shaped with ­short-rows, and the entire shawl is knit in garter stitch. This makes it a very simple ­project that anyone can execute, as long as you know how to make ­increases, decreases and how to slip stitches.

The first tip of the shawl starts with only a few stitches, but ­increases on every 4 rows at the lower edge. The leaves come in two different heights, but because they’re always the same (you just increase sts at the lower edge), it’s easy to get into the rythm. You make the shawl as deep and as wide as you like by adding more repeats or continuing the increases. Eventually, you ­decrease the same way that the first tip ­increased.

This shawl is perfect for your handspun yarn in various colours, combined with a plain white or solid colour yarn. Or perhaps a bunch of mini skeins as the contrast colour?

Rabatt is written for a locally produced Swedish yarn from the ­local mini-mill Östergötlands ullspinneri. The yarns Visjö and ­Karamell are spun with wool from finewool sheep, a ­native ­heritage breed that has a very soft and crimpy wool ­resulting in a fabric that can be worn next to the skin.
