Eunoia (n) - beautiful thinking; a well mind
I've been creating as long as I can remember.
As a child, I doodled on all of my school papers, always armed with a steady supply of Lisa Frank notebooks and colorful gel pens. Art class was always my favorite. I thrived working with my hands, bringing my whimsical imagination to fruition in the form of a drawing or sculpture.
It's funny how, as adults, we find ourselves returning to the simplicities of what we loved as children. The realities of the world are clearer and closer than ever before, and we long for the slower, simpler world of our childhood imaginations.
At least, that's my story.
In my college days and first few years following, I hustled hard after what I considered to be 'practical' and 'wise.' I found time to be artistic here and there, but it was never a priority in my life. I got a job right out of graduate school at a top company. One where you get a company credit card and get to travel and eat fancy food. In the world's eyes, I was living it up!
But soon came the pain.
Debilitating back pain. From the stress of working and traveling so much, I developed chronic pain in my back. I soon had trouble working, reading, sleeping. Anything that required sitting at a desk for more than five minutes became so painful. And with that, I soon couldn't draw anymore. I couldn't sit for that long to do so without being in pain.
They always say, "You don't know what you've got until it's gone." How true that was! Although I hadn't been allowing myself to focus on art at all, I suddenly missed it, craved it. Through my pain, God showed me I had been focused on all of the wrong things.
After my pain issue healed, I was inspired to begin creating again. I got a different job where I could be at home more in order to reorient my priorities.
And now, here we are! My shop is a reality! I created this as a space to share my art, and I hope and pray it will serve to inspire others to fill their lives with beautiful things. My shop name, Eunoia, is Greek for "beautiful thinking." My goal in art and life is to create things that inspire wellness in mind, body, and soul, to cultivate thoughts of beauty and wonder.
For me, art is an outlet, a release, an opportunity for my mind to open new passageways and escape from the flood of other happenings in my day. Not that these things are bad or should be avoided, these pieces all fit beautifully (however messily) into the big puzzle that is life. But art adds vibrance to my being, a bold stroke of red on a canvas of blue, a golden thread weaving through the fragments of my day.
I hope this shop can be a peaceful space where you're inspired, refreshed, and where you can feel welcome.
Thanks for joining me on this journey of sharing light, life, and truth with a world that needs it now more than ever! And, if you're reading this, thanks for making it through my story :)
