Swedish Handicrafts for Easter
I had the idea to make my Swedish witches when I was going to visit some friends for Easter. I wanted to bring them something unique and different from the normal Easter lilies. That was back in 1977!
The Easter folktale of Blue Mountain (Blåkulla) is very well-known in Sweden, and I thought making my friends an Easter witch would be perfect. My very first doll wore a blue dress…
The tale of Blåkulla says that on Holy Thursday, witches flew on their broomsticks to the Blue Mountain near the town of Marstrand to celebrate the witches’ sabbath. The story dates back to the 1500s, and was named after the dark blue rocks found on the mountain.
I have been making Swedish Easter witches ever since then, and selling them to businesses and individuals here in the Scanian region of Sweden. Now, I’m very happy to offer them on Etsy to people all over the world!
Glad Påsk / Happy Easter!
I've been making Swedish handicrafts since the 1970s, and selling them in southern Sweden. Now, I’m very happy to offer them to people everywhere! I hope you like my crafts, and you find the perfect item to decorate your home or give to a friend.
