Celebrating Americana

Audubon's artwork almost always includes background. In this Brown Pelican picture there's a lighthouse in the back.
In much of Audubon's work the background can be almost as interesting as the birds.
Audubon often hired other artists to do the floral settings for his birds, so he could concentrate on the main subject.
Audubon shot and killed his subject matter before painting. This method often produced strange expressions in the end.
John James Audubon was born in Haiti in 1785, raised in France and fled to America in 1803 to avoid Napoleon's army.

My Admiration for Vintage American Art.

Even though I have had a long career as a photographer and painter, I still have taken time to admire work by other artists and artisans. This shop will focus on the works of John James Audubon, but will also include other aspects of Americana, including 20 century travel posters, the sides of rusty train cars, old rodeo playbills and whatever other paraphernalia I might run across in my travels around this large nation.
