For the Fabric Obsessed
Het is tijd om de pareltjes van deze collectie door te geven aan de volgende generatie door stoffen geobsedeerde verzamelaars. Ik heb er 30 jaar aan gewerkt om deze textielcollectie samen te stellen. Ik deed mijn eerste grote kantgordijnaankoop in het midden van de jaren 1980 in een doorverkoopwinkel van een christelijke liefdadigheidsinstelling in de Griekse wijk Chicago. Ik herinner me dat ik door dozen ging en het meeste kocht van wat ze hadden - in de jaren 1980 was het mogelijk om een winkel binnen te lopen en dozen met gordijnen uit het begin van de 20e eeuw te vinden, wat tegenwoordig lang niet zo gebruikelijk is.
Ik stond aan het begin van mijn carrière als decorontwerper en ontwikkelde al snel een reputatie als iemand die bekwaam was in periodewerk - en mijn gordijnencollectie werd altijd goed gebruikt. Zoals je je kunt voorstellen, groeide en groeide mijn verzameling met elk project...
Terwijl ik werkte, probeerde ik zoveel mogelijk snelle foto's te maken van voltooide sets. We vonden het leuk om door die foto's te bladeren en de gordijnen van die sets te vinden in dozen die op mijn zolder waren weggestopt.
Naast de kanten gordijnen zijn er meer dozen om doorheen te gaan en extra categorieën spullen om met je te delen. Dus zorg ervoor dat u bij ons incheckt om te zien wat er nieuw is!
It's time to pass the gems of this collection to the next generation of fabric obsessed collectors. I have worked 30 some years to put together this textile collection. I made my first major lace curtain purchase in the mid 1980s at a resale shop operated by a Christian charity in the Greek-town neighborhood of Chicago. I remember going through boxes and buying most of what they had -- in the 1980s it was possible to walk into a store and find boxes of curtains from the early 20th century, which isn't nearly as common today.
I was at the beginning of my career as a motion picture set decorator and soon developed a reputation as someone who was skilled at period work - and my curtain collection was always put to good use. As you can imagine, with each project my collection grew and grew...
As I worked, I attempted as much as possible to take quick photos of completed sets. We enjoyed going through those photos, and finding the curtains from those sets in boxes tucked away in my attic.
