Hay algo en la joyería que es tan personal. No solo expresa el gusto, sino que también dice algo sobre el carácter del usuario. Desde la antigüedad, la joyería no era simplemente un adorno, sino que había agregado significado y propósito. Tenía poderes curativos, protectores y de estatus.
Si bien realmente aprecio las joyas modernas hechas a mano, mi hambre es por las hermosas joyas tribales o étnicas de todo el mundo. Es una pasión, una enfermedad incluso conmigo. Colecciono lo que encuentro hermoso. Investigo las historias. Visualizo al hacedor encorvado con sus primitivas herramientas para hacer una exquisita pieza de joyería que encontré y sueño con las mujeres que pueden haberla usado a lo largo de los siglos. A veces pienso que escucho sus voces u huelo sus perfumes. Para mí, estas piezas de joyería son un patrimonio, preciosos receptáculos de cultura que me han llegado a través del tiempo. Están aquí a pesar de que sus propietarios originales pueden haber desaparecido hace mucho tiempo. Mi misión es salvarlos de ser derretidos o maltratados y transportarlos a sus hogares de cuidado, para ser amados de nuevo y usados de nuevo y este trabajo me da un enorme placer.
There is something about jewelry that is so personal. It does not only express taste, but also says something about the character of the wearer. Since ancient times, jewelry was not simply an adornment, but had added meaning and purpose. It had healing, protective and status signifying powers.
While I really appreciate modern handmade jewelry, my hunger is for the beautiful tribal or ethnic jewelry from around the world. It's a passion, an illness even with me. I collect what I find beautiful. I research the stories. I visualize the maker hunched over with his primitive tools to make an exquisite piece of jewelry that I found and I dream up the women who may have worn it over the ages. Sometimes I think I hear their voices or smell their perfumes. To me these pieces of jewelry are a heritage, precious receptacles of culture that have come to me through time. They are here even though their original owners may be long gone. My mission is to save them from being melted down or maltreated and to transport them to your caring homes, to be loved again and worn again and this work gives me enormous pleasure.
