Ich bin auf dem schönen Vancouver Island geboren und aufgewachsen und auf dem Pferderücken in einer ländlichen Gegend aufgewachsen. Ich hatte das Glück, in einem kunstvollen Zuhause aufzuwachsen, da mein Vater Künstler ist und jeden Tag Kunst macht. Ich wurde ermutigt, zu experimentieren und verschiedene Medien zu erforschen, was mich auf Umwegen zur Kunsthochschule im ganzen Land in Nova Scotia führte, wo ich mich auf Fotografie und Medienkunst spezialisierte.

Nach einer sehr langen Pause vom Kunstmachen (als ich auf dem Weg zum Filmemachen und zur Fotografie kam), habe ich plötzlich eine neue Obsession – Aquarelle. Mein Freund stellte mir Aquarelle vor, da sie auch ihre künstlerische Reise begonnen hatten, also dachte ich, ich würde mitfahren.

Nach 20+ Jahren, in denen ich nicht wirklich viel Kunst gemacht habe, ist meine Muse zurück, in voller Kraft und Ideen für meine Arbeit strömen aus mir heraus. Ich hatte immer gehofft, dass meine Muse zurückkommen würde, und sie holt die verlorene Zeit wieder auf. Es gibt so viele faszinierende Kreaturen, mit denen wir diese Landschaft teilen, und alle verdienen es, geehrt und respektiert zu werden. Meine Absicht ist es, mit meiner Arbeit das unverwechselbare Westküstengefühl hervorzurufen.

Ich mache meine Kreationen auf einem speziellen Kunsttisch in einer Ecke meines hellen Wohnzimmers im schönen Victoria, BC. Ich werde von dem Drang gepackt, ein paar Tage in der Woche ein Gemälde zu machen. Meine Farbpalette ist im Moment ziemlich einfarbig - Indigoblau ist der Geschmack der Woche, aber das könnte sich im Laufe meiner Arbeit ändern. Eine meiner Lieblingsbeschäftigungen ist ein Ausflug in den Kunstbedarfsladen! Es ist schwer zu widerstehen, eine neue Tube Farbe oder einen neuen Pinsel in die Hand zu nehmen.

I was born and raised on beautiful Vancouver Island and grew up on horseback in a rural area. I was lucky to be raised in an art-filled home, as my father is an artist and makes art every day. I was encouraged to experiment and explore different mediums which led me in a round-about way to art college across the country in Nova Scotia where I specialized in photography and media arts.

After a very long hiatus from making art (when I picked up filmmaking and photography along the way), I have a new obsession suddenly – watercolours. My friend introduced me to to watercolours as they had started their artistic journey as well, so I thought I would go along for the ride.

After 20+ years of not really making much art, my Muse is back, in full force and ideas for my work are pouring out of me. I had always hoped my Muse would come back, and she is making up for lost time. There are so many fascinating creatures we share this landscape with, and all deserve to be honoured and respected. My intention is to evoke the distinctive West Coast feeling with my work.

I make my creations on a special art table in a corner of my bright living room in beautiful Victoria, BC. I get seized by the urge to make a painting a few days a week. My colour palette is fairly monochromatic at the moment - indigo blue is the flavour of the week but that could change as my work progresses. One of my favourite things to do is take a trip to the art supply store! It's hard to resist picking up a new tube of paint or a new brush.
