Recuerdo haber visto a mi mamá coser. Recuerdo la fascinación de ver algo plano convertirse mágicamente en algo con dimensionalidad y movimiento. Recuerdo ir a un museo y ver una demostración en la que una mujer estaba sentada en una rueca con un montón de pelusa blanca a un lado y recogiendo parte de ella y convirtiéndola en hilo... luego la siguiente dama tomaría ese hilo y lo tejería en tela en este enorme telar. Me quedé allí durante lo que parecían horas simplemente viendo la magia de eso suceder justo ante mis ojos y es un proceso que me ha fascinado hasta el día de hoy.

Empecé a coser cuando tenía once años. Mi mamá y mi prima me ayudaron a hacer mi primer par de pantalones de campana que abrazan la cadera (¿puedes recordarlos?) y estaba tan orgullosa de ellos que los usé hasta que casi se desmoronan. A partir de ese momento, me encantaba coser. Hice casi toda mi ropa de maternidad durante mi primer embarazo porque no pude encontrar ninguna que me gustara. Mi esposo me compró mi primer serger, e hice tops de polo, jerseys, pantalones y vestidos, y como pasé por dos tamaños diferentes de ropa de maternidad, ¡probablemente fue la decisión más frugal que tomamos durante ese tiempo!

A lo largo de los años, la costura ha seguido siendo parte de mi vida creativa, y también he probado muchos otros tipos de artesanías de fibra ... tejido, ganchillo, hilado, tejido, punto de cruz, bordado, punta de aguja.

Ahora, con nuestra hija mayor graduada de la universidad y comenzando una fabulosa carrera para ella fuera de casa y nuestra hija menor comenzando la universidad, coser ropa para ellos no es realmente una opción fácil ya que los "accesorios" no van tan lejos. Entonces, comencé a tratar de pensar en otras cosas que pudiera hacer que no requirieran los accesorios. Un día vi un patrón para una bolsa de mano en una revista y pensé: "¡Ese podría ser solo el boleto!" ¡Hice varias bolsas diferentes para Navidad y les encantaron! Ahora se había abierto un nuevo punto de venta, y cuando escuché las palabras "Me encantan todas las bolsas mamá, pero ¿qué voy a hacer con todas ellas?", ¡supe que necesitaba otra salida!

Fue entonces cuando nació mi idea de una tienda en Etsy. Me encanta hacer estas bolsas de principio a fin. Honestamente puedo decir que no hay una parte del proceso que no disfrute. Espero que disfruten viendo y usando estas bolsas tanto como yo disfruto planeándolas y haciéndolas, y estoy seguro de que continuaré expandiéndome y creando más artículos a partir de fibra e hilo en el futuro.

I remember watching my mom sew. I remember the fascination of seeing something flat magically become something with dimensionality and movement. I remember going to a museum and seeing a demonstration where a woman was sitting at a spinning wheel with a pile of white fluff at one side and picking some of it up and turning it into yarn...then the next lady would take that yarn and weave it into cloth on this huge loom. I stood there for what seemed like hours just watching the magic of that happen right before my eyes and it is a process that has fascinated me to this day.

I started sewing when I was eleven. My mom and cousin helped me make my first pair of hip-hugger bell bottom pants (can you remember those?) and I was so proud of them I wore them until they almost fell apart. From that time on, I loved to sew. I made almost all of my maternity clothes during my first pregnancy because I couldn't find any that I liked. My husband bought me my first serger, and I made polo tops, jumpers, pants and dresses, and since I went through two different sizes of maternity clothes, it was probably the most frugal decision we made during that time!

Over the years, sewing has continued to be a part of my creative life, and I have also tried many other types of fiber crafts...knitting, crochet, spinning, weaving, cross stitch, embroidery, needlepoint.

Now, with our oldest daughter graduated from college and beginning a fabulous career for herself away from home and our youngest daughter starting college, sewing clothes for them is not really an easy option since "fittings" don't go real well that far away! So, I began trying to think of other things I could do that wouldn't require the fittings. One day I saw a pattern for a tote bag in a magazine and I thought "That might be just the ticket!" I made several different bags for Christmas and they loved them! Now a new outlet had opened up, and when I heard the words "I love all the bags mom, but what am I going to do with all of them?", I knew I needed another outlet!

That was when my thought of a store on Etsy was born. I absolutely love making these bags from start to finish. I can honestly say there is not one part of the process that I do not enjoy. I hope you enjoy seeing and using these bags as much as I enjoy planning and making them, and I'm sure I will continue to expand and create more items from fiber and thread in the future.
