A huge passion for the clothing of the past
Ciao! Mi chiamo Gillian e vivo nello Yorkshire, nel Regno Unito. Cucio da quando avevo cinque anni e adoro realizzare repliche di abiti storici. C'è qualcosa nel tagliare e cucire la stoffa, utilizzando gli stessi metodi di una donna di duecento anni fa, che crea un legame così forte con il passato. E indossando le bellissime cose che realizzo, puoi sperimentare questo legame in prima persona.
Come sarta e ricercatrice di costumi a tempo pieno, sono stimolata e motivata dallo stile del passato, e questo negozio è nato per dare visibilità al mio lavoro. Il mio particolare periodo di interesse va dal 1780 al 1860 circa, quindi potete aspettarvi di vedere molti abiti georgiani, Regency, romantici e del primo periodo vittoriano nel mio negozio. Sono una creatrice meticolosa, con una passione per il cucito a mano e un'ossessione per i dettagli perfetti. A volte si tratta di una replica di un cappellino da sposa vittoriano, a volte di un abito stampato del 1790: qualsiasi cosa riesca a trovare nel tempo che ho a disposizione!
Ogni epoca della storia della moda ha il suo valore e la sua bellezza, e riflette le opinioni e le convinzioni di chi ha creato e indossato quegli abiti. Ricreare tutto questo, credo, ci aiuti a comprendere meglio i nostri antenati e arricchisca le nostre vite.
Hello! I'm Gillian and I live in Yorkshire, UK. I've sewn since I was five years old, and I love making historical replica garments. There's something about cutting and sewing cloth, utilising the same methods as a woman from two hundred years ago, that creates such a powerful connection with the past - and by wearing the beautiful things I make, you get to experience that connection for yourself.
As a full-time dressmaker and costume researcher, I am fired and driven by the style of the past, and this shop came into being to give my work a window. My particular period of interest is c.1780 to 1860, so you can expect to see lots of Georgian, Regency, Romantic and early Victorian clothes in the shop. I'm a meticulous maker, with a delight in handsewing and an obsession to get the details just right. Sometimes it will be a replica of a Victorian bridal bonnet, sometimes a 1790s printed gown - whatever can be fitted into the time I have!
Every era of fashion history has its own value and beauty, and reflects the views and beliefs of those who made and wore the clothes. By re-creating this, I think it helps us to understand our ancestors a little better, and enriches our own lives.
