It is wonderful to see the embroidered doilies going to someone who appreciates the work that has gone into each piece. A friend gave me some doilies embroidered by her grandmother and I commented on her talent. Her grandmother told her that everyone her age was expected to be able to knit, crochet, sew and embroider. Her grandmother embroidered to fill in time while she was waiting for her husband to return from WW2. Obviously the level of expertise varied from one individual to another, but I am in awe of some of the pieces that pass through my hands
