I am Ruth, avid earring collector and wearer. I share my heritage with people like Patra, Lady Saw, and Louise Bennett. Root and Hope was created in New Jersey and heavily influenced by the “Roots, Rock, Reggae!” of Jamaica, the country I call home.

Root & Hope offers handmade jewelry for everyone who wishes to have their culture identified and represented. Jewelry, one of the most visible accessories can whisper quietly or speak loudly. It is easily seen and can express aspects of the wearer that describes a part of their culture or group they belong to. Have you ever spotted a piece of jewelry on someone and it has that universally identifiable red, gold, and green? That feeling of solidarity that you get, that’s the goal of Root & Hope. I call that cultural intuition, when you see it you just know. I want my jewelry to resonate with you. With Root & Hope, your tribe can pick you out of the crowd, make you feel seen, and embrace you completely. Root & Hope was established in 2011 out of my love of wearing and collecting earrings. Today, I offer Afro-Caribbean inspired jewelry for you to own and feel proud to wear.
