From Office to Shop
After almost 20 years of working in Corporate America, a continuous onslaught of absurdity and an "I love Lucy-esk" conveyor belt of stress, I decided to throw caution to the wind and do what I fell in love with many years ago as a Graphic Design student at the University of Akron.
I had signed up for a metalsmithing class as an elective, not knowing what to expect. I absolutely loved it! Many times I found myself in the shop at 3 am not having eaten dinner or even lunch, hands black as night, a random piece of metal in one hand and a hammer or torch in the other. And across my face, a smile.
I took a few more metals classes over the next few semesters and even considered minoring in it. But when push came to shove and I saw the light at the end of a long tunnel that was my college career, I decided to forgo the few more classes that it would have taken in favor of graduating while I was still in my 30s! (That's an exaggeration, but not a very big one!)
I graduated with a BFA in Graphic Design and began working in the advertising industry as a graphic designer. I worked at several local agencies...
...blah, blah blah....
And that brings us to today, almost 20 years later, I'm banging on metal like a Neanderthal, happy as a clam!
