Frequently asked questions

I’m having trouble downloading my pattern – help!

First, log in to your Etsy account through your browser – not the Etsy mobile app. (You can make digital purchases in-app, but you can’t download the files you’ve bought from there). Once you’re logged in through your browser, follow these steps:

- Click on the ‘Your account’ icon (top right of the screen)
- Select ‘Purchases’
- Scroll down to your order and click on the ‘Download files’ button beside it
- Find the file(s) in your ‘Downloads’ folder on the device you’re using.

There’s more detailed information about accessing digital purchases here: https://www.etsy.com/help/article/3949 If you need any more help, please message me 🙂

What materials do I need to follow your patterns, and where can I get them?

All my projects use DMC stranded cotton which is available online and in craft stores worldwide. I include DMC’s colour codes in all my patterns, so you can match the colours exactly if you want to.

All my felt ornament patterns are made using wool or wool-blend felt. The felt ornament patterns come with a supplementary PDF with links to the colours I suggest you use from my favourite suppliers in the UK and the US.

The fabric used in my hoop art patterns varies by project. Every pattern includes information about the specific fabric I’ve used, and tips for sourcing something similar. I tend to use linen or a cotton-linen mix that I’ve sourced in the UK – drop me a message for more info.

How do I transfer the pattern to fabric (or felt)?

The best pattern transfer method to use will depend on the project and the material you’re using.

All my patterns include step-by-step instructions with photos for the most suitable transfer method for the project – and some patterns include an alternative method, so you can choose. Whichever pattern you’re following, the recommended transfer method will only include supplies that are readily available online and in craft stores worldwide.

If you’d like any pointers about pattern transfer for a specific project, please message me – I’ll be happy to help.

I’m new to embroidery. Will I be able to follow your patterns?

I’ve designed my patterns for both beginners and experienced stitchers. I like to include a nice variety of embroidery stitches, and I explain everything with photos, diagrams, and detailed instructions. Every pattern also covers helpful tips for when you’re just starting out – like how to work with your materials and tools, and ideas for displaying your finished pieces.

I tend to stick to beginner-friendly stitches, but a few of my patterns include a couple of intermediate stitches. You might find those patterns more enjoyable once you’ve got a couple of other embroidery projects under your belt. Refer to the information under ‘Level’ in individual pattern listings for more info, or drop me a message.

Do you sell kits?

I’m only selling PDF patterns for now, as that’s the easiest way to share my love of embroidery with the world. But I am working on selling kits in the future – follow me on Instagram @thehooopinhand to stay tuned!

In the meantime, I’ve partnered with a couple of lovely suppliers of wool felt who sell supplies kits for making most of my felt ornament patterns. I include links to these in the supplement that comes with my felt ornament patterns, or you can message me for more info. (Please note, these supplies kits do not include my pattern, you would still need to buy that directly from me here on Etsy.)

Do you sell the finished pieces? Do you accept commissions?

I don’t sell the finished pieces I’m afraid. I test-stitch each one myself, and then I need to hold on to them so I can market them. I also can’t bear to part with them! I highly recommend giving embroidery a go yourself, and you’ll see what I mean. But if that’s not your thing, you could always buy the pattern and find someone else to stitch it for you.

I also don't accept commissions, although I'm flattered anyone would ask 🙂 Designing patterns is plenty to keep my hands busy!

Do you sell into the EU? Who is your EU Responsible Person?

I've ensured all my patterns are fully compliant with the new General Product Safety Regulation (GPSR), so my customers throughout the EU can shop with confidence. See individual listings for more specific product safety information.

My EU Responsible Person for compliance with GPSR is EUCompliance Partner, Pärnu mnt. 139b–14, 11317 Tallinn, Estonia. You can also email them through their website www.eucompliancepartner.com.
